I was confused because the linked article in your post was about the October 2020 QUAD meeting in Tokyo.
Not saying they do but if China really wanted to start the war on their own terms, what better way than to interdict John Bolton, and hold him for trial at the ICC?
The Anglo americans would have to go to war according to their law, or else be judged weak and open up the possibility of many, many more of their 1%ers to be liable for criminal prosecution. China would be in the right, under the banner of the UN and accordance to internationals law and enforcing ICC decisions.
And would america's allies and vassals want to die for the sake of american war criminals?

there's not much point in negotiating with them anymore. they showed their true face.
The larger issue here is that Anglo americans believe they can act and behave with impunity, kidnapping and threatening Chinese businesspeople, CEOs, CFO, and Chinese scientists; Anglo America was only forced to behave like a civilised nation for once due to Chinese power- i'd bet Meng would never have been released if China was not nearly as powerful as she is today.
Other factors that need to be addressed by Anglo America are the damage they have done to Huawei; not only should they allow Huawei market access but also provide compensation for lost profits as per TPP stipulations, an Anglo fabrication.
Australia will have whiplash when Biden signs a deal with China. That's where all this is going.
US needs China to buy its debt (T-bonds) so Biden can fund his stimulus. He can't just print over 3-4 trillion dollars or the currency will be worthless and Congress won't let him raise taxes to pay for it either.
Also many US business are lobbying for some kind of deal with China to be reached; Boeing being the biggest.
For once in a long while China has leverage economically over the US.
And it's all thanks to Trump.
Meng's release is the first sign of goodwill from Biden. It'll be interesting to see what's next.
