The report from Global Times clarified the timeline of the events:

Framatome reached out to the US Department of Energy late May and informed the US agency of a "potential issue" at the Taishan plant, CNN said. The company later submitted an operational safety assistance request to the US agency on June 3, in which it warned that the nuclear reactor is leaking fission gas.

Lin Yi, vice president of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries,
said Saudi Arabia is the most important partner for China in the Middle East and Beijing gives Riyadh priority in its foreign investment plans.
Is this a new development? If yes, then this is very significant on how China views the region as a whole

So what about Iran....

It seems Xi is listening to me lol... (Jk)
Smart move if true, It shows they somewhat understand middle east

I know Iran is the romantic choice for thier middle finger to the west but you also need mercenaries

In an ideal world you get both as US had Iran, Saudi pre 79 revolution

As both are stratigecally important in middle east but if I have one choice it's probably Saudi...

I agree but the plan is worthless if they fail to outcompete China. Rejecting globalization induces inefficiency. For example, the UK's transition to 5g will be slower and more expensive because of their ban on Huawei. And this will cause the UK to lose competitiveness in industries that will utilize 5g for a few years. The same goes for the standards too. The innovator defines the standards. Also, that promoting democratic values online part sounds like censorship.

It would be interesting if they actually do it though, the west creating their own standards and production block. The iPhone could cost USD $5000 a piece.

That is only some parts of the west. Germany will not go along with that, neither will the Club Med of Europe.

With the better infrastructure being built, seems to me that brings the economies in distant places closer together, activating economies of scale advantages.

True but having so many different innovative countries inside and with such a gigantic market to sell, I dont think they will have too much problems with inefficincies due to reduced competition

On second, now I think this is not a good idea for the west.

It probably will only lead to more Western decline.

To set up an exclusive block via standards, it is still an exclusive block.

Let's look at England. Brexit to restore their splendid isolation, is not making England go back up, they are still going down in terms of world influence.

Also, when we consider that China is by far the largest manufacturer in the world of all types of goods, and that China is the largest consumer market in the world in terms of goods, (with China and ASEAN coming closer together via the RCEP), this standards committee from the west seems like a big Brexit in itself.

Saudi Arabia needs water injection on their oil wells to get the oil out. It is not as cheap to get as it used to be.
Iran has been under sanctions for a long time and a lot of their oil wells don't require water injection. It is much easier to extract.
You can run a pipeline from Iran into Pakistan and from there into China. Bypassing ocean travel completely. Impossible to do with Saudi oil.

America

Im making 100k a year just driving to work in the morning and driving back home every day... only difference between me and a doordash girl is she doesnt have to pretend to work...

Given real inflation is now 25% yoy and not the fake 2% to 6% fake data, technicially my purchasing power has been cut by a quarter... but I cant exactly complain when effectively on UBI

How much longer can this last? probably in a year or two most Asian and esp Chinese Americans living in 5Eyes but esp USA will be inside a concentration camp whilsts the rest of America will be in an open air prisonnation....

Might be a good time to invest in physical precious metal. I would've laughed at you if you suggested that to me a year ago. Nowadays I'm pulling a Ron Swanson.

If China cant sufficiently access these markets because it is blocked from doing so then it will naturally wont be able to export its own standards there.

Yep

For this exanple specifically, they may be late but if they can effectively control how much China can export there then they can accept this delay which IMO they can close the gap due to how many different innovative western companies would be able to freely compete between them without worrying about China

Anyway, this scenario is obviously far far in the future and it would be extremely difficult to implement in reality. China has plenty of time and resources to device it's own strategy. Still early days
With the RCEP and the TPP, China's trading bloc with exclude the US as a hyper inflated economy.

A currency swap with Iran would be nice.

Seems clear to me what they want to do. They will (eventually) create their own economic sphere where they compete with each other (and other allies) but China would be excluded (forcing Western standards, "forced labour", "not a democracy" etc)

Wasnt expecting that to start happening so sooon. Good job to Biden for having such a great plan

Lets see how they implement it though

Compete with each other? That's not the US way.

The US has warned the EU against pursuing “protectionist” technology policies that exclusively target American companies, ahead of Joe Biden’s first presidential visit to Brussels.

The punchline to the whole joke is that it's the NSC complaining. Shoes on the other foot now.
Huawei possibly having a schadenfreude moment here
