Ofcourse its a big loss. Its not like China doesn't have a Chinese equivalent of these services such as Amazon, Google, Airbnb and so on. But Chinese companies are lacking in ambition to launch global versions of their services. They could provide the same service cheaper and take a huge chunk of the revenue from US tech companies.

By taking global market share, Chinese tech companies could have much higher market cap and thus raise wealth of Chinese citizens. They could hire more engineers in China and also raising GDP per capita in the process.

Overall, this is easy money they are missing out.
Also helps with softpower when everything you buy or use is Chinese. American influence is big over the world is that it's companies are everywhere, spreading influence either in products or work culture.

If China is a strong of a country as people say, why will they bend to weaker countries? Be like the US and force your products in.

There is nothing wrong to create wealth and enhance power through industrialization. The West is too incompetent to reestablish industrial dominance. All they can do now is to complain. From the WSJ:

Now do services (particularly software services that are never included in US defined deficit data for some reason) and look at the so called balance of trade again. It’s all narratives and agendas.

They should really spend more time explaining why the west deserves to have any industry, especially considering how much reparations they owe humanity for everything since the Romans.
