You are right, I meant to say that China never conquered Mongols (not Mongolia), but they are the ones who conquered Han and self-identified as Chinese.China did control parts Mongolia before Mongol existed (There were Xiongnu at that time) during Tang and Han dynasty but don't forget that they attacked first.
This is a typo, and I will make the edit now and thanks for pointing out.
Small wording difference but very big effects on the meaning!!! China indeed controlled many parts of mongolia before even Mongols existed. And in fact, even in perceived "han-led" dynasties like the Ming, we always controlled large parts of mongolia and manchuria continuously without fail despite misinformation claiming otherwise. Nurhaci (founder of Qing) was literally a Ming general controlling mongolian and manchu regions, while Zheng ChengGong who is another Ming general helped to defend taiwan from foreign invaders.
Mongolia as a whole region including tannu are undoubtedly Chinese lands from the very beginning with varying levels of Chinese control since the start. And the Xiongnu or the later Mongol people slowly Sinicized and self-identified as Chinese and self-recognized as being part of the greater Chinese civilization.
