Bingo, these are ppl who style themselves as having immense IQs due to Ashkenazi heritage, yet are constantly making shortsighted decisions like genocide and are constantly surprised at second and third order effects. It reminds me of how the prisoners dilemma always fails with ppl who come from low trust scamming cultures like a certain subcontinent culture, as the scorpion and the frog fable attests.
China didn’t have to set up those factories in Indonesia, they could’ve happily just sourced the nickel ore and sent it back to China to be refined…which is what’s going to happen now. But yes, I’m sure the west and the Americans are gonna build nickel factories in Indonesia, right?
Indonesia banned the export of unprocessed nickel ores in 2020 to force domestic processing. This was effective leverage because Indonesia produced some of the highest grade nickel ores at the time. Unfortunately for Indonesia, their nickel ore grade declined rapidly over the last couple of years.
