Marcos Jr and Modi signed a "strategic partnership" between India and Philippines.

Before signing, Bong Bong should have checked with Iran how their "strategic partnership" with India had worked out so far.
I don't think this is that bad a move for Marcos personally. Right now he's owned by the Americans so he has to show them that he's doing something to confront China. There's no practical way to do this of course since Philippines doesn't have a real military, but cosying up to India can present the illusion of doing something, and as we all know that's far more important than real consequential action.

Philippines may end up with a bunch of mostly useless junk, or nothing at all, but this doesn't matter to Marcos.

Indian news have been pushing this angle a lot in the last 24 hours. How it's unfair that US is hitting India and going easy on China despite India being the ally and China being the enemy.

I reckon this only makes Trump want to hit them harder.
Yup. Trump loves to prey on weakness and India is exuding all sorts of weakness. Also, regardless of whether India thinks that the US is their ally, Trump doesn't see India as an ally so such a complaint is just being silly.

This really pisses me off about Indian attitude. They keep talking big and daring people to hit them. When they actually get hit they start screaming and playing victim like they don't remember what they said 5 minutes ago.

Have some balls already. You can't start screaming about how someone hits you in a boxing or mma fight.

India is not an US ally, at least not since what is now India was under British rule.

Anyone who believes India to be an American ally is either misinformed, or actively spreading disinformation, as in the case of Nimarata "Nikki" Haley (nee Randhawa):

There's a reason why disloyal Nikki was not offered a role in the second Trump administration.

Depending on how mouthy Haley gets, there's a chance President Trump will direct the FBI and DoJ to dig into her for FARA or Hatch Act violations, or maybe something else altogether. ;)

Less than half (

) of the American adult population is able to read English above the 8th grade level (what the US Department of Education considers "level 2" literacy):

Though I do recall reading elsewhere that "level 2" literacy in fact corresponds more closely to a sixth grade reading level rather than an eighth grade reading level, and that's plausible as

.

Regardless, the sad state of things is certainly reflected by the broader challenges and struggles afflicting the US . . .
This condition is not helped by the rubbish they peddle in school libraries as 'literature' these days. If you have ever cracked open one of these "young adult novels", you immediately understand why the American youth can neither write nor comprehend a sentence with more than two commas in it. These books have reduced the English language (already a simple grammatical system amongst its other European counterparts), to something close to Orwell's Newspeak.

The ability to quickly understand or produce similarly sophisticated arguments is therefore lost to the Americans. This is why most young Americans on social media resort to extremely linear thinking, and also why most of them are incredibly unsuited for jobs that require complex reasoning. The moment you ask one to consider two simultaneous lines of argument that support each other, and converge to the same conclusion, they short-circuit.

Too bad the MEGA crowd already called out Nikki for being of Indian origin. Her support for India would probably make them even more angry at India to be honest.

Are you Taiwanese? You look at this like you are from frog island.
China is "poaching talents too, SMIC's CEO was from Taiwan and look at where they are now.
Frog island's solution is to try to block engineers from leaving the island now. You think this is a viable solution?
Of course China would not want to lose top engineers, but it is an impossible task to stop people. All you can do is promise them a better long term environment. For engineers to join western and Japanese companies, there is a big risk that these projects can be cancelled at any time once interest wanes. Any project engineer knows this risk. Sometimes you have to take the money that's in front of you, sometimes it's not worth it long term. If you try to block them, they will almost certainly leave because no one wants to be trapped.
Calm down bud. Why be so confrontational

It's a legitimate issue. Just because china talent is deep doesn't mean china should make it easier for the west.

The govt already put limits in place for visas for those deemed core engineers and scientists. Obviously they also see the strategic value.

Just should have anticipated this and done it earlier. But better late than never.

I run into these guys quite a bit. The mostly work for shady as hell gig companies like Ontrac, delivering Temu packages. Ironic that they run from China, but a Chinese company is allowing them to make a living in the US. I see them wandering aimlessly outside my apartment building and I'm always happy to let them in, or give them directions. They're always over the moon to encounter someone who can speak Chinese and thank me enthusiastically.

Its easy to feel sorry for them, but reading articles like this one gets reminded of the stupidity of their reasoning for leaving, the fact they didn't consider for a second that Trump would come back to power and completely throw their "meticulously planned" dream in the toilet, and how some of the dudes mentioned here seriously think participating in anti-China protests would butter up their claims of asylum.

The rabbit hole is deeper than it appears. Article below shows a recent emergence of an Israeli propaganda program providing funds to entities (NGO's mostly but also big corporations and law makers) to disseminate pro-Israeli, anti-Palestine, and anti-Palestine protests information. One of the aims is to target colleges and universities to redefine antisemitism (just as they had previously done by redefining Judaism as a religion with an ethnicity). And... TikTok appears again.

Another group, CyberWell, a pro-Israel anti-disinformation group led by former Israeli military intelligence and Voices officials, has established itself as an official “trusted partner” to TikTok and Meta, helping both social platforms screen and edit content. A recent CyberWell report called for Meta to suppress the popular slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”.
Maybe that explains how TikTok survived in America.

Another interesting bit,
The “Concert” remark referred to a sprawling relaunch of a controversial Israeli government program initially known as Kela Shlomo, designed to carry out what Israel called “mass consciousness activitiestargeted largely at the US and Europe.

Rest of the article is about how tight is Israel's grip on USA.

The reality is that Chinese society is hyper competitive or as one of them put it, “Darwinian.” Not everyone is going to make it and some people invariably get left behind. The economy moves quickly & the government can’t provide decent jobs for all; it’s unfortunate but it’s also why China is successful while other countries are not.

Even among more affluent, intelligent circles, the number one reason why Chinese immigrate to the US is because they think life is easier in America. That was and probably still is the case in most industries. But this comfort comes at a cost & it’s why the US is run by immigrants, and even then, it is struggling more to keep up.

Strong men create prosperity; prosperity breeds weak men; weak men bring tough times, and tough times create strong men. This is the essential cycle of civilization. The US is in the “weak men bring tough times” step.
