Japanese people have incredible winology. They sincerely think JSDF are better trained and better gunned than PLA. Japan for most part of its history was irrelevant. They had a few decades thanks to western tech. However that's going away since China can just as easily pick it up. They really don't want to go back to the past. Same as Korea.

I think this is just Japan showing how they can bark but knowing they have no bite. Why not just threaten to build nukes to defend itself from China? It’s because there’s nothing that will stop China from just proclaiming they will specifically target Japan with nukes that they already have and are building because of the US’s running their mouth already. The US is already alarmed that China is building a thousand nukes in just ten years. See what happens when they irresponsibly run their mouths like that. Japan is a small country. You don’t need a lot of nukes to take them off the board.
