What will China do? China will obviously do either one of two things. China will not speak to them.
China refuses to speak to them, then what exactly are they going to do? Start another trade war? How did the last one turn out?
The other choice is China can troll them, by speaking to them and agreeing to nothing. Sort of like how Lighthizer and Lui He held all those rounds of trade talks. It was amazing the talks did not completely collapse and they actually agreed to something.
That was why President Trump knew what he was doing, on a tactical level, but Trump flunked out of strategic thought school.
President Trump played all the cards already. What we are seeing from this statement from the US and EU is a cheap imitation of President Trump. In the end, his trade war failed to achieve anything that the United States really wanted, and the US trade deficit still balloon upwards.
The Europeans suffer from strategic confusion, which its roots are seemingly from an inability to accept their role in the world. The EU is all about over promising and under delivering.
