Bessent bats off a suggestion that the tariffs will increase prices for consumers, saying that US retailers will force their foreign vendors to eat the tariff costs.

Walmart “is pushing back on his Chinese suppliers,” Bessent told Fox News. “They’re the largest retailer in America.”

Lol. You think Chinese companies are going to accept an -54% cut on their price tags and go bankrupt. Delusional billionaire smooth brains are going to drive the US economy into the earths core.

Wow, that's correct, I just ran the numbers for China and got the 67% tariff for China on his board.

Exports from China to the US in 2024: $438.9 billion
Imports from the US to China in 2024: $143.5 billion

Therefore trade deficit = 428.9 - 143.5 = $295.4 billion
So (trade deficit/imports to US) = 295.4/438.9 = 67%

This is a load of nonsense.

You're the one who asserted you're part of this specific construction project, it seems to me you should be the one to prove that assertion is true. Until then, you're not part of this project and as such you have no ability to know what occurred on this project.

It's not that complicated.
LoL! You fool! I didn't say that I am part of this project. The information about it is all public. I just say that I know how building construction projects generally work. I have been involved in the construction world myself. So I know what I'm saying. I don't know all the shading dealings involved in that project. Still, there are structures, standards, and procedures to how things are done in the construction world. If something blows or collapses, we can trace the responsible party through these procedures and standards. That is why these procedures and standards exist!

You're smarter than me. So please enlighten me. Tell me and everyone here with 100% conviction that the Chinese contractor could never be at fault! Tell us how do you come to this conclusion! Show us your great knowledge! Or maybe you are a Jai China?

Make no mistake though, these tariffs are a declaration of total trade war against China. Grabbing popcorn for the counterpunch, it will be beautiful
It doesn't actually matter, the math is actually pretty simple: 1.5/1.3 < 1.4/1.0, a $10 Chinese product will go up by price less than a $10 Vietnam product, for example, in other words the price of Chinese goods relative to everyone else actually just dropped.
The only country Chinese goods went up in price is against the US, but US isn't and will never be a player.

China will do something in response to twist the knife because this gave China an excuse, but just going by math this is great for China.

There's a huge difference between Chinese contractors can never be at fault, which I did not assert, and your assertion that Chinese contractor is at fault in this case without any knowledge of specifics nor having done any tracing. You made the claim that Chinese contractor is at fault in this case, you need to provide evidence.

The whole thing with Walmart is that they tried negotiating for partial cuts but even that was not accepted and the CN government even nodded in to confirm it. The policy continues to be that US companies/consumers need to eat 100% of the price hike.

I don't really know if that matters anymore though, since as of right now, US is de jure at war with China, after Trump just (99% chance accidentally) recognized separatist republic in China. That's the much bigger news and it's going to give US so much financial trouble at the very least over the next few days.

Sure, Trump can and with most certainty will apologise and rescind the war declaration because it's not like he followed it with physical acts, but China could right now under wartime acts freeze all of US' assets. Or do other crazy stuff like demanding all (major) countries majorly cut trade with US over invading another UNSC member.

Walmart was pushing back because they were the big fish against the Chinese suppliers.

After too much bullying though, these small fish called their freaking gigaton mommy whale which told Walmart to fck off.

Seems that this fine smoothbrain didn't get the memo because Walmart ain't wanna come for a second time to China only to get chewed up
