"Japan has requested that Taiwan explicitly state its pavilion at the upcoming World Exposition in Osaka is run by a private firm, sources close to Japan-Taiwan ties said Sunday.

The Foreign Ministry is believed to have made the request after determining that a statement by the Taiwanese government suggested the pavilion would be an official exhibit. Japan does not have diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

Taiwan will be exhibiting under a private firm as it is not a member of the Bureau International des Expositions. Its economic affairs ministry said in a statement earlier this month that it would be presenting the "Tech World" pavilion.[...]"

Soon all that talk about Chinese debt trap in the media and chinas the one that lost the most money?

What's the point of lending if media campaigns can easier make one lose money, and lose more than others.

I wonder how much of the loss was accepted by china just so they don't encourage any more negative press?

China needs a better media campaigns for this or just not listen to the media.

I wonder if the Chinese govt knows that no matter how much they bend over backwards to lend generously to these countries, all it takes is a negative media campaign to negate all that good will.

At least they should announce it as a gift to Sri Lanka so everyone knows they are being generous.

Unless there another angle here for china, it could be another rare L for china. That and the CK port sale. They really need to cancel the port sale, I don't care if the govt needs to threaten Li's entire extended family to make him back out. I'm pretty sure the US would do the same. Time to fight dirty, com'on CPC. Do it!

These debts are counted and traded in US dollars, which are foreign exchange from China's exports surplus. China has trillions of dollars in reserves. Considering dollars' credit loss, China intends to spend them rather than let them shrink in pockets. If 3rd-world countries can repay their debts, that would be the best. If they can't, then use ports, mines, etc. to exchange. If that still fails, China will pay its companies/workers in CNY, while successfully spreading China's tech, infra, standards & culture to these countries. China is still winning.

Remember: China is using US' money to make loans & expand its influence (helping developing countries with tech & infra). China is not losing even in the worst case. Given China's massive surplus every year, it has to be spent in some way. This is BRI's genius point. China is shaking the US empire from the very root.

All those meetings happening in Mideast aka New Europe. I am sure they want US and Russia join hands if not publicly. and this only way to accelerate that new empire that will make Gulf Monarchies center of the world. AI is mentioned.

Is this genuine or a way for India to increase its bargaining power with the US? I've noted that India's extreme pro-US foreign policy reduced its options and made it vulnerable to US blackmail. The problem is that India cannot solve much for China the way that Russia can (e.g. cheap energy imports). But at least it would make sense for China and India to get along.

The problem as always with India is that its elites are very Westernised, many have extended families in the West or are themselves thinking about emigrating to the West. An India that truly aligned with China would see that access to curtailed or even cut off, which would raise hell inside India among its upper-middle class, which shapes its media, academia, business etc.

There's also the question how sincere these words are. India and China have fought several wars and conflicts with each other. India is an aspiring hegemon in Asia. Relations with China could only work if India abandons those ideas and accepts its weaker status vis-a-vis China. I don't see that happening.
ill keep discussion on India limited to just say this:

Europe wants to make good with China now that Trump is bullying them. Where were they a few months back? Even at the G7 they still try do piss off China. Where is the sincerity? You can't say you are sorry while still mocking the guy under your breath. You have to show you are genuinely sorry and usually that involves paying a deep price. For example in the past defeated leaders had to personally come to the emperor and kneel in front of him and say sorry in front of everyone to see.

The same applies to India. Those who aren't serious don't deserve to be treated seriously.

Vietnam is adopting Standard Gauge Railway (same as China's gauge railway) for all her high-speed rail in the country, North to South, including ones connecting to China itself.

Anyone with a modicum of understanding of geopolitics knows that Game Over, GG.

Not even Russia-China shares the same Rail Gauge connection - yet China achieved that with Vietnam. If you read Western pundits, you would think Vietnam would never adopt HSR/gauge size tech of China due to adversarial relations - this is farther from the truth. Yes, they are unusually silent too.
They are not silent, they have been fired.

I wouldn't say Europe is trying to make good with China. They're trying to scare Americans into forcing Trump to pull back. Just like Canada threatened to go to China if Trump tariffs them. It's disingenuous because they've been also telling Trump tariff China instead of them.
