He's doing what he's supposed to do, he's balancing his relationship with both US and China. This is what a multilateral world looks like. Wasn't China trying to court the EU and Canada recently? Those countries are sanctioning Russia if you remember. This is the new era, no more blocs just multilateral transactions.
yes this is new era when all the wealth will be extremely concentrated and they will set the direction. i wont name it as most people know what i referring too.

The two leaders also explored opportunities for cooperation with other partners, particularly in Africa, and exchanged views on regional developments.

I think people grossly overestimate Putin. He was finessed by Merkel & Hollande. He was finessed by Erdogan. His image as a wise and cunning leader is totally unwarranted IMO.
One nation is having economic hardship, another one doesn’t. All those leaders mentioned are either not in power anymore (Merkel) or are not in a good place right now (Erdogan). I’d say Russia is doing quite well for itself, can’t say the same for Turkey who is lead by a man whose backstabbing nature is rapidly catching up with him. I mean what did his adventure in Syria amount to other then outing himself as Israel’s bitch

Typical Putin. Americans offer him some kind words and he is already prepared to welcome his western partners with open arms.

Use your head more. By "investing" into new Russia regions/Russia puppet Ukraine, America is effectively fooled into inviting the devil to cross the door boundary of NATO.

1. It 100% legitimizes Russia's land grab.

2. It ties American assets for the long term into Russian hands - remember how Russia had just confiscated most NATO assets the last time.

3. It takes perhaps around a decade to develop some form of credible rare earths extraction, so for this time duration, US is just straight up paying Russia for something that may or may not materialise.

4.. It means all sanctions must be dropped, since trade wouldn't work otherwise.

These terms from Putin are basically demanding reparations from US but with a concession in face saving. However, the worst part for US isn't even the money, it's the impact on ties with EU.

Edit: if you recall, Ukraine itself tried the same "tricking investment for protection and legitimacy" on China. Remember Motor Sich? Even though China got tricked for the moment, they outplayed Ukraine's trick by cutting the losses and just siccing Russia on them directly. I doubt US has the fortitude to outplay Putin's tricking in the same way.

You "4D chess US empire" guys don't seem to grasp that the more concessions Russia makes now, the worse it ultimately is for the West and the better it is for Russia in the long run.

Because they're the real winners of this war and get the strategic payoff. It’s always going to be asymmetrical. The more negotiating points on the table, the more Russia will end up squeezing out of the US overall when all is said and done.

And if you seriously think Trump is smarter than Putin, you might as well put a bullet in your head. With a buffoon like Trump in office, whose only real concern is his personal media image, Russia will milk the situation for every strategic gain possible.

From their perspective, the most realistic outcome is Russia walking away with the entirety of Ukraine on a silver platter, while Trump gets a few flashy headlines, and the US loses big time.

There is no "4D chess", and there are no "Western partners", there is only a fact that most nations collapse when interest payments hit 40% of the budget, which will happen in a few years in the US.

The US runs a higher debt during peacetime than during wartime WW2, whereas Russia has 15% debt to GDP, and yet you are wondering who will end up as the winner of these negotiations.

Vladimir Putin has maintained a clear path forward for Russia since at least 2014, upon the annexation of Crimea, if not 2008, when he commenced a brief war against Georgia to violently express Russia's objections against further NATO expansion.

The road has been painful and bloody, especially in Ukraine for the last three years, but Putin knows who Russia's friends and enemies are, and the center of gravity to his vision has remained reasonably clear and consistent.

Putin knows what game he is playing while his most prominent European critics and opponents largely failed to even realize that they were about to get dumped by Uncle Sam.

If unremarkable figures like Merkel and Hollande really did finesse Putin, then their chief colleagues and collaborators wouldn't literally be crying now . . .

I prefer the more harmonious version. Pizza is Europe.

Guess which country is the guy behind it?

Racism is never acceptable regardless who the target is. Racism against Indians can easily turn against Chinese. We should never allow racism to fester.
Then how do you explain Americans being more tolerant to Mexicans since Indian invasions? Checkmate atheist.
