The launch of the 5090 is hilarious. Across all the Microcenters in the US there was only ~230x 5090s on launch day.

One week later. Prices have increased by 18% lol.

Asus and MSI hike RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 GPU prices by 18%

Although the GeForce RTX 5090 and RTX 5080, two of the best graphics cards, were launched a week ago, Nvidia's partners have already started hiking their prices. Asus and MSI were among the first to increase prices in their U.S. online stores, although the GPUs are out of stock.

The price hike is likely due to the limited Blackwell supply, Trump tariffs, scalpers, or a combination of these. Depending on the variant, MSI was selling its custom GeForce RTX 5090 at launch for between $2,000 and $2,400. The Ventus 3X, the budget model in MSI's product stack, had the lowest price tag at $2,000. The pricing has increased by an additional $400, an 18% increase on the flagship Blackwell GPU.

The MSI RTX 5080 16GB Ventus 3X will set you back by $1,140, initially costing $ 1,000 when it was launched if the stock was available. The price increase on the MSI RTX 50-series GPUs can also be seen on Newegg, with no stocks available.

The price increase is also seen on custom Asus RTX 50-series graphics cards. The Asus Astral RTX 5090 has increased from $2,799 to $3,079, with zero availability. Similarly, the RTX 5080, made by Asus, has experienced a $200 price increase, just like MSI variants.

Many would argue that the price hikes are due to high-volume sales, as the RTX 50-series inventories were out of stock within twenty minutes at retailers like Newegg. However, Trump's tariffs had a bigger role in price increases. Last month, tariffs were announced on TSMC between 25% to 100%. Naturally, this will reflect on the final pricing of graphics cards and tariffs on other components such as VRAMs. Irrespective of the price tag, the graphics cards are selling off quickly, and scalpers added to the nuisance by selling the Blackwell graphics cards at ridiculous prices on eBay.

Many PC gamers blame other factors, such as cryptocurrency, AI, and even Nvidia, for pushing EVGA out of the GPU business. The early adopters were the only lucky buyers who could dodge this price hike. As for others, they'll have to wait until there is more stock and, hopefully, the prices stabilize. Those with a previous-generation GeForce RTX 40-series GPU may not see the urge to upgrade since the generation-over-generation uplift isn't extraordinary.

In some ways I already feel apprehensive of Indian Wumaos on twitter who were promoted and paid by Chinese media back in the 2019 era when the Chinese foreign ministry felt the need to pay and promote non Chinese journalists since western audiences only believe news about China if it comes from a non Chinese person. You get instances like that stankovic guy who was basically just another sexpat who decided he could dictate how his half Chinese daughter felt about the Japanese invasion Of China during ww2.
I have yet to see an India as erudite or objective or as clear minded as say Kishore Mabubhani but then and again he came from a low caste background and grew up in singapore.
S.L. Kanthan is a certified Wumao. Maitreya Bhakal is a basically wumao also.

It's not that they need a Indian face to report. It's that the Chinese messaging style sucks and is ineffective.

Just compare the style of Ben Norton, Richard Wolff, Michael Hudson to CGTN, China Daily and others. The difference is in the messaging itself. There are other major factors.

You see difference in the language and the framing.

Asian reporters vs non Asian reporters
hegemony vs empire
military adventurism / world police vs brutal empire invades nations
ideology vs fascism
Taiwan independence vs separatists
color revolution vs coups, overthrow government
usa confronts China vs usa attacks China
usa discredits China vs usa smears China
usa discourse hegemony vs usa's global propaganda machine - you can even use ex-CIA director quote here.
"We'll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false." - William J. Casey, CIADirector (1981)"
usa protects Taiwan vs usa sells weapons to Taiwanese separtists
usa's trade restrictions vs America's tech war on China (this was from WSJ).
usa wants to contain Chna vs America wants to destroy China
will will crush Taiwan independence vs usa wants to use Taiwan as an unsinkable aircraft carrier
misunderstanding vs lying
spreading rumors vs atrocity propaganda
hyping up vs lying
lab leak theory vs anti China propaganda

The Chinese style of reporting is weak and tries to be inoffensive, which is useless. Because it's so inoffensive, the reporting rarely provides clarity or wins people over. I never watch the Chinese news and even get the impression that America is even attacking China. I keep seeing soft and/or insane terms like restriction, contain, confront (people confront bullies. China is not a bully), etc.

America is trying to destroy China with everything outside of a hot war and Chinese media presents this as "We are not a threat. Why don't you believe us. Please correct your wrong actions.". Useless.

The framing and wording is almost always wrong and self defeating. This is always related to their lack of skill.

Instead of pleading innocence which makes you sound guilty (mostly because of poor execution). An innocent person would usually lash out for being framed up with Western lies.

Try attacking the accuser's total lack of credibility instead. For example, "The Western butchers of Muslims pretends to care about Muslims in Xinjiang."

When China tries to debunk Uyghur genocide it rambles on about minor points like the number of temples built and showing dancing on the streets. Who cares. Start by stating the population has tripled. And Chinese media should focus on comparisons eg "Here's an actual genocide supported by the West who claims they love Muslims in China." Show the crimes against humanity they committed against Palestinians in Gaza. Use emotional videos and photos.

One more point about the futility of being inoffensive. Emotions are the most important thing to sway. Pictures and videos are the best tool to sway emotions. That's why Western war criminals hire paid actors to cry on camera in their fake testimonies.
Specifically the US. consulate in Hamburg emphasized repeatedly "the tremendous importance in Germany of television and radio. . . . Here one can see the war in all its horror. Last evening one saw the riots in Da Nang and Saigon, weeping children, frantic mothers, rebellious students. The commentators who appear practically every evening on television are at least eighty per cent against American policy in Vietnam." page 146
from Empire of Pictures - Global Media and the 1960s by Sönke Kunkel (2015)

This is what your enemy fears - skillful use of content to sway emotions against them.

Most accusations by the West are best replied by a side by side comparison and include some damning quotes from famous Americans like Jimmy Carter.

Carter then referred to the US as “the most warlike nation in the history of the world,” a result, he said, of the US forcing other countries to “adopt our American principles.”

“Since 1979, do you know how many times China has been at war with anybody?” Carter asked. “None, and we have stayed at war.”

This Bethany Allen seems like not all there.

Subversion is virtue, that is what they are basically saying.

Must be an Orwell fanatic.

The reason that the funding is being stopped, is that it accomplished nothing.

The China economy has a $1 Trillion dollar trade surplus, China leads in value added manufacturing besides along being the world's biggest manufacturer, and flying 6th gen warplanes! Along with A.I. stuff.

They lose their funding before the regime change they expected to happen, that never happened.

That is irony.

They were so sure.

:D
The saga of Bethany continues. BTW, I'm shocked, shocked, to find out that UK's Foreign Office plays a similar role as USAID!

Canadian warship commander relieved of duty due to ‘loss of confidence’

The commander of a Canadian warship deployed to the Indo-Pacific region has been relieved of duty effective immediately due to “loss of confidence,” the Royal Canadian Navy announced Friday.

A brief statement from Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee says Cmdr. Adriano Lozer was removed from his command of HMCS Ottawa “to ensure effective leadership” of the frigate.

“The incidents that gave rise to this decision do not concern any form of misconduct,” Topshee said.
“Upon his repatriation to Canada, Cmdr. Lozer will serve in other roles within Maritime Forces Pacific,” he added. “Procedural fairness will continue to be respected throughout all follow-on administrative processes.”

Cmdr. Landon Creasy, the former commanding officer of HMCS Regina, will assume leadership of HMCS Ottawa until it concludes its deployment and returns to its homeport in Esquimalt, B.C., late next month.

The vice-admiral described Creasy as “an experienced naval officer.”
“As this is a personnel matter, no further information will be released at this time,” Topshee said.

HMCS Ottawa is currently deployed as part of Operation Horizon, the Canadian military’s mission to promote peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.

The warship was in Manila on Thursday, according to online vessel-tracking software and a social media post from the Philippine Navy welcoming the frigate to the country.

HMCS Ottawa left Esquimalt for the deployment in October.

I'm guessing he fucked around with PLAN and found out.
