When the early Christians disappear and Christianity spreads (400/600-) as a new Romanism, three things happen:

Aside from @Bellum_Romanum ’s point about naiveté, others are just born for such a thing (those who want to get combat jobs) and want to join an organization that allows them to do it. Before you say that they can join their ethnic country’s military, for China, SK, and Japan, they only take in citizens, AND their age limit is low.
