with Trump/Musk's moves against USAID resulting in a freeze in funding for many China-focused NGOs.

Curiously, the reason given for this is not because understanding China is a prerequisite for successfully navigating the 21st century, but because freezing USAID funding for China NGOs will -- allow me to paraphrase the author slightly -- prevent us from learning and rebroadcasting just how much China sucks and how much better white people capitalism democracy is by comparison and therefore allowing us to take home Gold in the ideological Olympics.

Of course it is entirely to be expected that an Australian think tank that is funded both directly and indirectly by the US government (directly by the US State Department and indirectly by organs of the US MIC) would be nervous about the recent moves in Washington related to the funding of foreign entities. But still, it's an unusually frank admission of ASPI's objectives and basic mindset.
Australia is the most insecure anglo nation. The underlying cause is a pathological aversion to accepting their place and position in the world, which is: a country in Asia, that has no political or military power, whose best chance at a prosperous future is to become asian and integrate with the leading economic region in the world.
They want to be the master race in the region, despite all measurable indicators showing the opposite (their good living conditions were gained by association first with the British superpower, and later the American one). They want to be seen the same as the US during its peak, and now feel their chance at becoming the almost-americans (only possible by association with a strong America) is fading fast.
The dissonance between want and reality is the cause for the immense level of denial in their political establishment, with the notable exception of realists such as Paul Keating.

Sure, I was simply replying on whether it’s technically possible or not.. business wise, it’s another matter.

Hence me prefixing my earlier reply with “it would be deeply unpopular”…

It's worse than China's MG during the same period, which registered 1,645 units.

If Alex Tabarrok's opinion is representative of US elites' psyche, the US will lose its competition with China.

The US will lose to China anyway for the following reasons:

I’m of the opinion that there is something irrecoverably wrong with the economy. The scammers and grifters are trying to cash out as much as possible before the whole thing folds like a house of cards in a breeze.
A bubble in non-tangible services has been pricked, however the leak has not yet grown to catastrophic failure yet.
Further, all non-saturated, growing markets have been immunized against US monopoly by Chinese manufacturers and service providers. Finally, its now the US market's turn.
Everything that had been monopolized by the US, including its own citizens understanding of the wider world, is being upended by Chinese providers; if the US can't catch up now, it has no hope when revenue dries up.

She is just salty that she’ll need to turn tricks on OnlyFans soon.
Would consider pirating if she does, she kinda cute

If she had a normal job, she might actually be a nice person. It's just that she was limited by ability and wouldn't have made it in normal industry, so ended up becoming a nepo hire at a government funded think tank in order to hold a role somewhat commensurate with her level of study.
