The history books state that after 1840, drug abuse was widespread in China. However, it is evident that modern China has been highly successful in controlling drugs. Does anyone know how China managed to successfully address the problem of drug proliferation?
PeoplesArtofWar on X (Chinese-American) posted about this issue and how China under Mao tackled and solved this massive issue with great success!!

John Bolton loses Secret Service detail after Trump yanks security clearance

WASHINGTON — Former Trump White House national security adviser John Bolton said Tuesday that he has lost his Secret Service protective detail — one day after the 47th president canceled his security clearance, citing a 2020 tell-all book.

“I am disappointed but not surprised that President Trump has decided to terminate the protection previously provided by the United States Secret Service,” tweeted Bolton, 76.

Bolton, a longtime advocate of regime change in Iran, received the detail from then-President Joe Biden in 2021 in response to Tehran plotting to assassinate the former US ambassador to the United Nations.

“Notwithstanding my criticisms of President Biden’s national-security policies, he nonetheless made the decision to extend that protection to me in 2021. The Justice Department filed criminal charges against an Iranian Revolutionary Guard official in 2022 for attempting to hire a hit man to target me,” Bolton wrote.

“That threat remains today, as also demonstrated by the recent arrest of someone trying to arrange for President Trump’s own assassination. The American people can judge for themselves which President made the right call.”

It’s unclear whether Trump directly ordered the termination of Bolton’s detail. However, presidents are able to designate Secret Service protectees at will.

The Justice Department said in 2022 that an Iranian agent “attempted to pay individuals in the United States $300,000” to whack Bolton, “likely in retaliation” for the January 2020 US airstrike that killed Islamic

Soleimani’s death occurred almost four months after Trump fired Bolton, whose book was published in June 2020, outraging Trump and prompting the Justice Department to sue Bolton and open a grand jury review of whether he improperly disclosed sensitive information.

Both actions were dropped by Biden nominees.

Trump yanked Bolton’s security clearance Monday, the first day of his second term, as well as clearances held by 49 living former intelligence agency officials who signed an October 2020 letter suggesting that the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop were Russian disinformation intended to discredit his father.

Bolton’s book “was rife with sensitive information drawn from his time in government. The memoir’s reckless treatment of sensitive information undermined the ability of future presidents to request and obtain candid advice on matters of national security from their staff,” Trump’s Monday order said.

“Publication also created a grave risk that classified material was publicly exposed.”

The Secret Service did not immediately respond to The Post’s request for comment.

I think the difference is that outside of US where there were socialist movement in their history, left is used to refer to the relationship (now or past) to the socialist movement from late 1800s. US never had a real socialist movement, both "left" and "right" in US context are mix of (world) left and right in various aspects. I don't try to claim whose definition is right, just saying that these words have become meaningless like "mariage" in the west.
I've wondered about this, and in recent days it came up again due to the refugees on XHS running with Maoism ironically or otherwise: how come western Marxists have this weird relationship with CPC. They don't necessarily always straight up say CPC is revisionist but also don't praise Socialism with Chinese Characteristics either despite the clear success it's having. So I went into those communities and sure enough they are also talking about it in light of recent events. They generally give pretty honest answers like:

1. They're not comfortable with the degree that CPC is embracing capitalism at this stage in development, some doubt there really is a big plan with communism at the end (the 'state capitalist' angle')

2. Western Marxism mainly concerns itself with equal distribution of resources in society, or how to evenly cut the cake. This is probably because their society started with a high baseline. Socialism with Chinese Characteristics is mainly concerned with growing resources, or how to make the cake bigger, probably because of the lower starting baseline in China (the Marxism vs Maoism angle)

3. They don't see eye to eye with CPC because Marxism in the west is mainly an academic exercise, so purity of ideology is important, in an almost religious holy text sort of way. CPC actually has to get its hands dirty running a country under socialist principles and CPC is famously pragmatic which Western Marxist see as unclean (the ivory tower vs barefoot doctor angle)

4. They think China is just straight up authoritarian and just using socialism as window dressing, ruining the good name of socialism. These lot get a lot more push back now from their peers saying they've fallen for the same propaganda that their government use to make China look bad because surprise surprise they live in capitalist countries.

But I think someone made the best comment that it can be summed up in a much simpler way: during the Sino-Soviet Split majority if not all of Western Marxist are on the Soviet side. Seen as Soviet Union failed and PRC is going strong if they embraced Socialism with Chinese Characteristics they will have to admit they were wrong, and people hate to admit they were wrong.

That's why socialist movement in the west is in such a strange state. Due to history they are unable to embrace the one big actual working example of their theory in action. I frankly think an easy mental gymnastic way out for them has already handed to them on a silver platter: just do the Deng thing and say doesn't matter if it's black cat of white cat, if it can catch mouse it's a good cat and be done with all that historical baggage.

The cancelation of birthright citizenship is a huge ideological shift in the US. It cannot be understated. It means the US no longer believes itself to be a rich and innovative society.

In the past the US was ideologically a pioneer society limited by labor. Resources are rich, all you have to do is work hard and get them. The distribution problem can be overlooked as the cake is big enough. Everyone is invited to work hard, make money (and serve the government via taxes).

Now the US has shifted to a zero sum society limited by resources. There is enough labor, perhaps too much for the resources available. Now it is a distribution problem. The cake isn't big enough and the top has taken all but the crumbs.

I think all the Trump reforms boil down to stabilization and retreat. It is basically Eastern Han or Roman Dominate. A brief restoration but filled with instability and setting the stage for even worse crisis in the long term. It is sad for the people.
They must have done analysis what type of people are getting this kind of citizenship. US problem is not innovation. It is managing people for mass high quality production at reasonable cost. Remove Japan from Boeing and it will practically collapse.
Current US is modern day Ottoman empire. where Arabs/Europeans/Jews are key stake holders.
but original Ottoman empire became most pathetic in history when it has all ingredients of real super power but still defeated by Russian.

Yoon and his supporters are nuts, they really want to kick off WWIII. First they tried to false flag an attack on Americans soldiers during the martial law period and blame it on the North Koreans. Now, they claim during the impeachment trial that 90 or 99 Chinese spies were apprehended during the martial law period and got deported to a US military base in Japan.
The idiot Pinoy corrupt President Marcos Jr. Should phone up his corrupt American buttboy to get in line, as he was first to try and start a conflict with CHYNA!!!

I believe we should also strive for mutual benefits in our conversation with China. When China joined the WTO [World Trade Organization] 25 years ago, the impact of rising Chinese exports was called the “China shock”.
2025 marks 50 years of our union’s diplomatic relations with China. I see it as an opportunity to engage and deepen our relationship with China, and where possible, even to expand our trade and investment ties.
