Another benefit of migrating to XHS is since its moderated to mainland standards mods would actually crack down on things like drug and explicit content. If American government is going to claim TT is virtual fentanyl and deliberately so compared to Douyin which is much healthier then they people can hang around on XHS and let the XHS mods install proper Marxist-Leninism dialectical materialism based morality into their people. They might even like it.

Well JV is probably what Elon thought when he proposed it, but at end of the day Chinese law prohibit any sale, and Beijing didn't "remind" ByteDance to "follow the law" if the law was flexible.

So Elon can invest and become a share holder, but he can't do any more than what existing American shareholders already do.

But hey if Trump wants to pay ByteDance to avoid TikTok shutdown I don't think ByteDance would mind.

Xi can play hardball now with the Xiaohongshu defection - its actually beneficial to Bytedance shareholder if TikTok USA went away (losing money as of Q3 2024)
