Maybe it is less about China than having a platform less censor heavy. You know, try speak against Israel and see how fast one gets banned. If any platform can do it, people go. Telegram is Russian, at one point was relatively safe. This is an example similar to this but not Chinese.

It just happen that China has the power to resist coersion for censorship.

Foreigners haven't discovered Kuaishou yet, somebody make some Tiktok videos to educate them on Chinese social media platforms.

For reals because these social media are out of reach of Western MSM and China focused they give TT refugees an unfiltered view into everyday life in China just from osmosis. You know that thing China's been doing with the visa free period and people go visit and post vlogs of them going "oh shit, this is totally not what I was lead to believe from our media", it's like that only in much much greater scale due to lower barrier of entry. It will destroy all that consensus building work they've been doing.

XHS is actually much more powerful in that regard than Tiktok since XHS doesn't have the Tiktok/Douyin divide, you are getting full strength, unfiltered in your face Chinese social media when you're on XHS.
