I wonder if this is a sign that something is afoot. With Trump, chances are low but he is the only one that can follow in the footsteps of "only Nixon can go to China". He does like doing the unexpected. Now there are two people in Trump's circle that have a lot to lose in a worsening trade war on China.
Few people on the planet has bigger exposure to China than Elon, Lutnick's ties are pretty trivial in comparison.

But there is a chance Americans infact do not actually realize that, their past behaviour seem to suggest they only understand financial concepts and do not know China is ahead in most technology, Tesla isn't a joint venture in China and they don't talk at all about the Chinese tech in their vehicles or the Chinese supply chain that allows them to make a profit on EVs, Elon's vulnerability is entirely from concepts Americans don't understand and he might appear to be independent when it comes to concepts they do understand.

If that's the case it could get a lot more interesting than baseline scenerio.

I never understood the mentality if you want someone to deal with China, pick the guy that has had zero exposure to it.

If they are concerned about conflict of interest, ask him to divest his ownership.

"Kenya President cancels deals with Adani Group and receives standing ovation in Parliament"
Even Africa is getting tired of India now.

I kinda get why the west hasn't really taken much action against India. Because it turns out despite it's self proclaimed supapowah status, the west can easily neuter India without much effort.

Look how easily India lost Bangladesh making it have almost no allies. And Adanis business tanked 25% in just one day. If the scandals were even more, the Indian market would tank faster than a meme coin. The foundation is really bad and the west knows how easy it to knock it over to collapse the whole thing.

When the US wants to sanction or whatever China, I believe they spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to make it effective. They have spent years trying to stir up trouble in XJ, HK etc but failed while Bangladesh probably took only a few months to finish the job. However I believe the west didn't even try that hard with regards to India. If they really wanted to, they can easily crush India's jugular vein tomorrow.

People really underestimate China's tactical finesse, Xi's admin is not just able to bluntly spam his economical advantage to beat US.

We're seeing essentially a succesful version of an economic Schlieffen plan. Between Adani leaks, geopolitical offensive in Bangladesh, Africa, tensions inflamed between West and India, India will be subdued before Trump can even assume office.

The key is that none of these moves heavily rely on China's economic advantage. It's all assymetrical surround from the countryside plays.

The Fatal Flaw in India’s China Strategy

Economic Dependence Will Make New Delhi Forever Vulnerable to Beijing

I don't need to post quotes cause we all know what kind of anti-China content it will spew. What's interesting is that this article was published in Foreign Affairs recently and the author's affiliations.
  • HARSH V. PANT is Vice President for Studies and Foreign Policy at the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi.
  • KALPIT A. MANKIKAR is Fellow for China Studies at the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi.
The Observer Research Foundation is the top think tank in India, though tbh the other think tanks regurgitate the same anti-China talking points.

Very good article summarizing the changes at China-India border recently and the thaw in bilateral relations by 梦回糊涂‍/
