As an additional plus, when China does win Cold War 2.0, Americans can make a stronger claim to the idea that China didn’t beat America, but that rather it was America that beat itself.

It always perplexed me why this whole affair was brushed under the carpet. Normally, if the US had even the faintest evidence the virus was engineered, it'd run the news cycle for years and wouldn't let up on the pressure. Indeed, this was what happened for a while in the beginning, but then it felt like mainstream media got the signal from the government to close down the discourse, and the Biden people just kind of shut up about it.
Now it's more clear. During their investigation they discovered the depth of US involvement and that it was essentially an US initiative. It's increasingly obvious the Chinese "bat lady" was just a collaborator paid by the Americans to conduct the research outside the US so they could avoid scrutiny. She didn't pursue this out of her own ideas, much less the Chinese government's - she was just the Americans' tool.
So they shut the whole narrative down to try & wash their hands of it, because if it ever got out that US institutions essentially used a Chinese proxy to do the research that created COVID, despite knowing of the dangers, they'd get the larger share of the blame.
