Understand that in a world where countries are increasingly divided into black and white camps, Chinese diplomats still have the burden of treating the whole world as a gray area, some areas perhaps shades darker than others, but still nonetheless places they must deal with adroitly through a calculating lense in order to win the best results for the interests of China. And I repeat, whatever interests you think the CPC should be pursuing, nothing is more paramount than the continued development of the Chinese nation towards developed nation status, even if that means dining with your "enemies" now and then.
The biggest strength of the western bloc is that they are united in ideology and actions. This leads other countries to obey western sanctions, just to avoid offending them. That makes China the biggest enabler of western power and influence in the world. If not even China will support you in a fight with the west, why not align with the west directly?

It's noticeable that countries that choose to submit to American power are richer in today's world. This will seduce more countries in the future, especially if China continues enabling American sanctions. People criticise Iran for not being pro China enough, but at the same time China is doing very little to support Iran and actually usually obeys American sanctions on Iran anyway. So why not just talk to the Americans directly?

China could certainly be more self confident internationally. Just look at the Uyghur issue and how that's being ignored by most because China is too important. A little bit of anti American action in global conflicts would similarly be ignored. They're already doing decoupling as fast as they can, they won't go any faster. The day will come when the big confrontation with the western bloc happens. By then, you might wish that China had invested more in friendly nations.

I've heard that china's bombers and nuclear submarine is still a generation behind the US but does it really matter that much if china can produce it at a rate exponentially higher than the US?? I'm pretty sure a small technological difference will easily be compensated

There's a doctrinal difference between the U.S. and China to begin with which necessitates different needs for their respective forces design structure and posture.

China's current strategy is DEFENSIVE in nature and not offensive/expeditionary compared to the U.S. hence why the U.S. military has many bases all over the world as an expeditionary force capable at the ready at moments notice.

When people make comments about China's subs as a generation behind compared to the U.S. don't factor the distinction and contrasting strategic approaches the two countries forces into their propaganda. It's to allay and provide some sort of false superiority and bravado over the Chinese supposed inherent weakness in the sub area category.

And since most of the folks that are on social media, traditional media have low attention span, lazy learners, and simply rely on outmoded, outdated thinking and rather be comforted by the illusion of western/American military infallibility. We can witness such proclamations on the recent liquidation of a Hamas leader/hero/terrorist/Islamist/jihadist/freedom fighter.

Sooner or later, Taiwan has to be reunited and the defensive strategy will have to be abandoned
