Technology is overrated. Look at OBL.. we have the best brains and best technology looking for him 24/7 yet he managed to evade capture for a decade. Even then it was human intelligence that played a more significant role in getting him. Technology is useful when used correctly otherwise it's more of a paperweight. When someone disables the transponder and the primary search radar for whatever reason wasn't used to locate and identify initial flight paths everything becomes exponentially harder afterward.

I still cannot believe they spent a good 3 or 4 days looking at SCS when the primary search radar saw the air turn back. This is a case of politics, red tape and human error and not technology. The humans in this case did not utilize the technology properly.

Hope somebody does some searching around there. It may turn out to be another false lead but the current search area is based on "guesstimates" as well.

An Australian exploration company says it might have found the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 — and it's not in the Indian Ocean.

The company, GeoResonance, claims it has identified possible wreckage from a commercial airliner on the ocean floor in the Bay of Bengal, Australia's 7News reports.

The Bay of Bengal, marked on the map below, is about 3,100 miles from the circled area of the southern Indian Ocean where authorities have been looking for the missing plane.

The plane has been missing for about six weeks, and search teams have yet to find any wreckage. In March, Malaysian authorities said satellite data revealed the plane's last known location in a remote area of the Indian Ocean.

But GeoResonance claims it surveyed about 1.2 million square miles of the possible crash zone and identified "chemical elements and materials that make up a Boeing 777," a company official told 7News. GeoResonance apparently used images obtained from satellites and aircraft along with technology designed to find nuclear warheads and submarines to identify what it says is the wreckage of a plane.

This screenshot from 7News allegedly shows where the wreckage is:

The company thinks it is MH370 because the wreckage wasn't showing up on images from the same area from before the plane disappeared. GeoResonance told 7News it had sent a report about its findings to authorities on April 15.

A Malaysian aviation official told The Star newspaper that Malaysia was unaware of the report of GeoResonance's findings.

The agency that's running the search for the missing plane dismissed GeoResonance's findings, telling CNN: "The location specified by the GeoResonance report is not within the search arc derived from this data. The joint international team is satisfied that the final resting place of the missing aircraft is in the southerly portion of the search arc."

Malaysian authorities, however, are looking into GeoResonance's claims.

GeoResonance notes on its website that the company has "successfully applied [its] technology to locate submersed structures, ships and aircraft."

MH370 went missing on March 8 during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. There were 239 people on board.

Nothing new here but can this guy just stop putting his foot in his mouth? Geez, there's been a lot of remarks on how the victim families act but I find this guy's remark irritating and I'm just a bystander.

Hishammuddin even suggested the Bay of Bengal search was being done to placate grieving relatives. “If we are irresponsible in our approach in going forward with that [GeoResonance] lead,” he said, “we also have to understand the emotions of the families.”

How valid is this pilot assessment regarding MH370?

what is this navy vessel 872?

It is an oceanographic vessel, built for mapping the sea floor to facilitate submarine operations.

This whole Malaysian airline situation turns out to be a lottery jackpot for China. It presents China with a perfect excuse to establish a permanent presence in the Indian Ocean. Do expect this to be another Somalia-type mission, where China rotates the ships every couple of months, forever.

If they find this aircraft somewhere not anywhere as advertised, China should declare a permanent ban on the New York Times. The self-anointed world's leading source for news and title of newspaper of record mocks China and accuses them of wasting everyone else's efforts to find this aircraft because of lesser technology and politics... I remember watching the news where they were talking about the costs of the search and suggesting China have to pay the bill since most of the passengers were Chinese. Shouldn't the costs come from the country from where the airliner is from and how about Boeing since they made the aircraft? All this easy out of the mouth nonsense of trying to displace responsibility only opens the possibility that there is a cover-up. The true nature of what happened can be wide ranging but a cover-up is simply about hiding responsibility. If it was a malfunction, someone is responsible for that. If it was due to an intentional act by individual or by state, why would they cover it up unless they're responsible or they're protecting someone responsible. Since most of the passengers were Chinese and if it were an intentional act with a cover-up by conspiracy, China would have the right to act against whoever is responsible. Never finding that aircraft prevents that from happening. I was also watching the news talking about lawsuits. Did you know that because no plane can be found, that's the best case scenario regarding defending those responsible from lawsuits?

The NYT already got banned in China, alas because they pissed off Beijing for something else. Nevertheless, for being so ardently attacking China, it's no surprise there.

Beijing never declared it. They just didn't renewed their reporters' visas. That means they could allow them back in.
