Re: New interceptors for the Argentine Air Force?
Gentlemen,
To quote Jeff Head. “Please stay on topic”. I truly appreciate the excellent discussion regarding the Boeing, Airbus and spare parts for Chinese produced aircraft.
From what I’ve read in the Argentine press (which has to be taken with a grain of salt and read between the lines). The only aircraft that have been purchased are the 13 Mirage F-1s from Jordan. These low hour aircraft are being upgraded in France with avionics comparable to the Mirage 2000-5.
The possible purchase of Mirage 2000s from Qatar (with France as a broker) will most likely not materialize due to the high acquisition cost. This would leave the FAA with 13 Mirage F-1s and 32 A-4AR. Basically not much of and air force.
As I mentioned in pervious posts the Air Force will have available approximately $US700 million for new aircraft acquisition. Many of you have championed the purchase of used J-10s from Chinese stocks. Others have advocated the JF-17.
Within the next 10 to 15 years Argentina will need to replace the existing A-4AR. This will leave the country with less aircraft than ever before to secure the vast airspace. A robust multi purpose aircraft that can be upgraded and can serve until 2050 is needed.
Thanks
