North Korea's Key to Olympic Medals: Refrigerators For Winners, Labor Camps for Losers

If you have bothered to read all of it, the article will actually admit that they have absolutely no evidence of any Olympian get send to labor camp, all they are saying is that if people are determined to be "disloyal" they may get send to camps, and this process is NOT just for athletes, in fact probably non athletes get judge much more than athletes.

But hey. GREAT HEADLINE!!!!

well when you have dictator like NK, and a history of people send to labor etc etc. its not really a trust worthy government, it will make people wonder what happen if she didn't meet leader expectation.

You can speculate all you want, just like Ye was doping but without any concrete evidence it is just bad to draw conclusions, and go read the headline, see what it says.

i'm not talking about national level trainning, i'm talking about that photo. in national or provincial gym, trainning might be hard but not necessary abusive. but in county /village level, there are trainning done by coach consider as abuse. its not about the overall of trainning in china, but the lower level. when poor villager send to local gym for train, the coach are not provincial or national level. often then not the way they train kids are discipline sometime abusive. trainning in US is hard but you won't see a grow man stand on a girl leg, while her leg was pinched. if any chinese say this is not happening in village/loca level, i think they are lie to themself.

You think olympic-level training happens at county/village level? Shows how uninformed you are about Chinese society.

And that makes it okay to make up headlines with no evidence whatsoever? Hell, forget evidence, try LOGIC.

NK sent 56 athletes to the London Olympics. So far, they have 5 medals. Even if they double that number, that's only 1 medal for every 5.6 athletes.

So if you were a North Korean, and you were considering your career choices, being an Olympian would give you a 20% chance of winning a fridge or TV every 4 years, and an 80% chance of being sent to a labor camp.

Yeah, I'm sure they'd be lining up to join the Olympic squad...

does that look like 30yrs old pic ;) and you 100% sure this doesn't happen in some far away village/county level gym. not all gym are national/provincial level. by the look of picture likely a country/village/4-5tier city level gym.

Well, it's a possibility the picture is that old. Also, the one picture is not a representative of the whole country. It may just be a representative of a particular trainer of a bygone era.

No, a lone picture with no reference of source or context is meaningless. And with the western media's record on these things, the picture is highly suspect.

How do you know? what is your evidence for your allegation that training on the county and village level is abusive? or this is out of your own imagination?

All this talk about abusive training in China is because China is having this impressive performance at the Olympics. People in the West are trying to establish a potential link between brutal training and outstanding performance. Since athletes attending the Olympics would be national level, the whole hypothesis would be abusive training is not only widespread, but on the highest level. Now you are saying this only happens at the lowest level. So this would have nothing to do with the athletes actually attending the Olympics and other international level sport competitions. If that's the case, abusive training should have nothing to do with China's improving performance in international sporting.

if any chinese say this is not happening in village/loca level, i think they are lie to themself.

Again, how do you know? Because of that one photo? There has been widespread reports about abuse in US colleges (Penn State, for instance). Does that mean ALL US colleges abuse their athletes?

Plus, we don't even know she's Chinese. Again, my question for you: where was the photo taken? When was it taken? Was this an actual training? Was this a fictional movie? Was this a fake (for the exact purpose of framing Chinese)? Is she actually Chinese? I don't think you can use the photo as evidence for anything before you can answer these questions?
