Littoral Combat Ships (LCS)

BIG WINNERS: The compromise bill is a victory for both the Navy littoral combat ship and F-35 joint strike fighter programs. In both cases, House and Senate negotiations went for the high end of proposed purchases. The bill pays for three littoral combat ships despite the Navy’s request for just a single ship and Navy Secretary Richard V. Spencer’s insistence that no more were needed. The three-ship buy is not unexpected because Shelby’s state of Alabama is home to the Austal USA shipyard that builds the Independence-variant LCS.

that just left the conference committee, lawmakers have funded a 33rd, 34th and 35th littoral combat ship, three more than the 32-ship requirement set by the Navy. But when it comes to the mission modules destined to make each ship either a mine sweeper, submarine hunter or small surface combatant, that funding has been slashed."

LOL! mind-boggling sentence inside
Full speed ahead on the new US Navy frigate

"The Navy knows what it needs precisely because it cannot execute the missions that it would otherwise assign to a frigate."

hey author, with your 'full speed' title, just wait if the USN selects anything at all, as it has to pour billions into its LCSs: revolutionary transformational gamechangers which 'undoubtedly' 'ultimately' 'eventually' 'will' work
and nobody listens to me ... now:

"The Navy could ... scrap its plan to build the new next-generation frigate (FFG(X))."

It's like the Zumwalt all over again. That time it was guns without shells for them. Now it's a minesweeper without the sensors for it.

To bad they didn't do this sooner still a crappy idea for a frigate lock mart actually has the upper hand though because if Fremm or this one wins guess who wins that's right both will be built in Wisconsin at lockmarts yard

...It's Fincantieri's yard, not LM's.

LCS Project is political engineering in action, the Navy pays not just with money (for vessels unable to deploy for years), but the Navy also pays by getting ridiculous surface-force structure consisting of: Burkes; Burkes; then Burkes; and more Burkes! (and Ticos being retired without replacement gosh, I mean a new design LOL not Burke FIII)

LCS Project is the Pentagon's self-inflicted wound OK I stop now, actually right after reminding you Sep 21, 2018
