The ASHM launchers are as I have tried to show you again and again not an issue. The tubes are well above the waterline. The flight deck on Independence is large The helicopter model is to scale and the super structure was not reduced in size.

the openings on the side of the hull here are about where the launchers would sit and The launchers are designed to contact with the sea. It would be stupid to place anything on the hull of a ship not suitable for contact with seawater.

you are correct VLS models could be placed in the bow mounted Mission module but that would mean eliminating the last of the mission module space behind the main gun and in front of the 2 forward quad launchers. As is you are looking at 16 VLS cells with 8 cells on each side of the superstructure
Although a larger set could be installed in the bow it would take longer and Austal/ General dynamics are already pushing beyond the Navy demands with the VLS.

Ok once again read the article it says the RTE should be ready by the end of May that's all it says really nothing in concrete yet so even if VLS comes to pass we are still talking 2 more LCS in 2019 with the other starting in 2020 maybe just another way of getting 2 more LCS without any improvement at all

Agreed that's why I stopped calling it Independence class, and instead called it Austal Frigate. the model is an offering being made for the NAvy to consider, no contract signed. Likely the two to be built and the existing units will be more like the Legacy LCS ships.

If we get any VLS ships at all even money says it will be with ESSM and 8 OTH missile only

The Existing LCS classes are flight zero. they will be retrofit with what the navy can to meet the more traditional weapons centric mission aspects. but only to a degree.
The Upgunned Small Surface Combatant the Navy demanded lacking the extras like VLS and estra Quad launchers are Flight 1 and will likely be what the under construction to be built ships of both classes. and would round out the 26 ships.

I think Is there bid for a Flight 2 a bid for a true mission frigate they are hoping the Navy will take note of and buy post 2020. As with the completion of the Mobile and Marinette they would still need another 26 ships to meet the wants of a 52 ship force. They are better armed than the flight 1 Ships with were more bolt on weapons,Flight 2 would be purpose built changing the design to better suit a Frigate need with ASW, AA and AS mission package. presumably There would be a flight 3 down the line especially with the Navy being pushed for a larger fleet. If so those might add new parts and subtract others perhaps being Jura's VLS loaded machine.

Doubftull with budget problems for LCS in service i see only possible they get anti-ships missiles normaly 8 it is the necessary number and Harpoon cheaper there are in stock.

Budgets change based on priorities of the powers that be. Dems tend to trim Defence, Republicans tend to fatten them. Trump is the Question and he seems to favor a larger US force.

Which fits the existing navy wants of SSC it also could be done with the ships under construction, built and planned. like I said Flight 0 = Existing ships Freedom and Independence boats in commision and and trials.
Flight 1 Small Surface Combatant versions= Under construction and contract.
Flight 2 future offerings. That is what I think Austal is looking to grab with the Austal Frigate model.

might now make an impression as if I had been an LCS supporter, who most definitely I'm NOT
(the chart I posted Yesterday at 9:02 AM was of course just for the purpose of the discussion with TE here)

in fact, I think LCS Project is one of the worst I've ever heard of, from the points of its
  • concept
  • management
  • realization
which are all laughable, with examples which I've been posting for two(?) years and could repeat if somebody didn't know what I mean

instead, I think the USN should've procured, well, a Frigate:
