It's also being reported in USNI that Saudi Arabia has also purchased the mk41 Vls but doesn't say on what ship's they will be used on my guess is that Will be the new FF

Wish we could get 30 of them

If indeed the Saudi ship's do get the mk41 doesn't that render the navy's argument that it was too heavy for the the ssc kind of irrelevant

per defense news each ship is to have a 16 cell VLS a 76mm gun and 8 harpoon block 2 plus sea ram with ESSM to be used in the VLS and I thought they were to heavy for all those weapons why can't we have some thing like that?

Yes well armed and versatile armament, normaly AEGIS ships :
Earlier this year, the Saudis reportedly asked for ships armed with an “Aegis or like” combat system using a “SPY-1F or similar radar.”

More small AEGIS system for SSC, Norvegian Nansen FFG have they are very decent ships in fact have an armament with a power we want for the futur USN SSC.

AEGIS especially usefull vs saturing attacks can engage alot more targets that " classics " system, sensors.

Just look at the details assuming they are correct. Four vessels for $11 billion. That is $2.75 Billion a vessel. For that you can draw up your own wish list or get an upgraded Burke. I doubt for that kind of money, the Saudi's are getting anything resembling the US version other than in name.

That's for the ship's plus weapons trainers and spare weapons such as replacements for used Essms harpoons we sometimes get caught up in the cost yet forget each round and each missile is not free I know I do

At the last count, the LCS coming off the production line cost $590 million each (excluding modules). Against $2.75 Billion, that is a lot of weapons and spares the Saudi's are buying. That is just too wide a discrepancy to reconcile. I personally believe the facts are wrongly reported because in another earlier article, the Saudi's were planning to spend $3.5 Billion on their Frigate like acquisition program.

The point though is with sufficient funding, the LCS hull can be modified and packed with whatever goodies you want. The Saudi version if it proceeds as reported will be testament of that. I know you have a preference list on what should go into the US official version but that is not going to happen - not with the present administration and prevailing budgetary climate.

Agreed just wish there was a way to reconcile the difference's so the navy gets a ship that's fully functional on the surface and for AAW

Dt, please stop posting numerous posts where in essense you are thinking out load on the forum.

Think about what you want to say...read through the posts...then try and respond wth a single post where possible. SD has a multi-replay option for that very purpose.

I have combined you posts above.

In addition, Lockheed offers several hull sizes for the LCS. My guess is that the Saudis are going to get one that accommodates all that they want on their vessel. With the 76mm gun, the Mk42 VLS, etc., they are going to get the hull to accommodate that.

Realize this type of thing before you make pronounc3ements that implies either that the US Navy is lying, or does not know what they are doing. I assure you...they do know what they are doing in this regard.

Naval architecture will allow for what the Saudis want within the various hull options Lockheed offers.

As to wishing for 30 of these Saudi vessels...well, I do not.

Instead, now the US is going to have 56 frigate types vessels with a very specific multi-role mix and mission.

The Saudi mission is much different, and these vessels are their heavy hitters.

The US navy has 62 Burkes (and growing) and 22 Ticos for heavy hitters.

Not every ship can be everything...and spending well over 1 billion...close to two perhaps...for each of these very powerful Saudi hulls would only cut into the overall numbers, and at that cost, into Burke hulls too. No thanks.
