It's simple, avoid the punches and go for the soft spots. Be tactically flexible, don't just counterattack at the same point that you got attacked, instead recon and aim for other places where the enemy is weak.

That would mean you left more places unguarded or you spread yourself thin which you will be unable to hold the ground if larger enemy forces move in.
It either China sent in more reinforcement or signal on the negotiating table that using full might of pla capabilities is on the card and the Indian must be convinced that it not an empty threat

Isn't U.S. news also the outlet that was reporting 35 PLA soldiers killed in June based on "U.S. intelligence"?
The fact that even far right U.S. outlets like FOX and WSJ refused to quote India's claim that 43 PLA soldiers were killed in June just shows you how little confidence they have in what India claims.
