Labor Day open house of PLA HK Garrison

Too bad PLA is a party armed force when will it be nationalized? Maybe then HongKonger can join:)

I guess more and more people have learnt to just ignore the ignorant nowadays, already.

@ MwRYum, great pics and great vids!

Don't know you noticed or not, HK residents are actually the lucky ones. In mainland, fans CRY OUT for any kind of open house days, the answer is always NO! you have to claimb the fence to peek what's outdated and "not in a show-stance" and get caught if they want. (J-20 "show" being exception)

Institutes got "open houses" from time to time, but the only things you got were posters with WRONG footnotes.

Even foreigners can join now

Are you sure they recruit people for commanding positions like any post in the Central Military Commission, General Staff department, ministry of defence or just a commander of a boat. I still believe you need to be a party member for those post.

I know that, that's why I'm quite confident that at least 50% of what I put up are first amongst all.

And would you believe the pics are resized from far bigger jpeg files, which produced from 12.3MP RAW files, and I was only using an Olympus E-PL1 with 14-42mm zoom lens? That's about as fancy as my kits goes here.

Now let me see if I can upload the advanced obstacle course vid by today...mind you, I only kinda master the filming with this baby on May 2nd, and that means the vid would kinda sucks, I'd say.

Again, great photos for this thread.

- that is whay I am wandering, can our mods DELETE those non-related, ignorant posts, intentionally or unintentionally, initiated by some of our fans down here, even if it means to sacrifice my post at #32?... before more fans joining the "What's good for China (and the world)" debate?

And for those who might wonder about the crappy quality of the vids, well, it ain't E-PL1 fault (kit lens is rather slow at AF, though), blame Youtube...my files are at least 1.75GB each, so gotta convert into FLV files first, thus the lost in quality.

However, if you're interested in snap-shot of any of the vid, please tell me which to look for and I'll do it from the superior quality originals.

All the videos are so cool! It looks to me that the training is pretty professional. Can anyone with military background comment on the quality of the training shown in the videos, especially the first videos about small groups shooting? Can anyone comment on how well they are coordinating the offense and defense? Thanks!

P.S. I thought how those 3 guys got on top of a wall in the last video is cool.

Re: PLA Labour Day Open House event, 2011 - army section

@MwRYum, thanks so much for all the photos and videos, they are great!

Can someone please enlighten me as to what the 2 things with pistol grips are in post #15 (between the BBQ-901 tranq gun and the crossbow pics)?

I am not military background, but I have noticed a few things:

In the first 3 vids that "seige a military stationed complex", the red team approaching the "No.2 target" when the blue team sentinel answers a call, is a little too idealized and the red team approaching is easy to be spoted;

When the seige heats up, red team have a member "hurt at the head" and being treated by teammates, after that, he retreated. Since he is still "alive", he should have a tactical retreat, instead of just walk back;

Although I have no doubt the personnel doing the "hand-to-hand" combat is really capable, the show is "a show" only. In real combat, they'd put down their enemy (or being put down), with 一招 ("one shot") only. That's the doctrine of PLA.

Other than those, I say this is a very good demo. The demo is "a military team vs. another military team", it is different from what the more public view of "anti terrorist urban combat". Military confrontation do not leave room for the attacking team to do those SWAT style "typical move", cause the other team got capable fire support and training too. Every single move of every single soldier of both side, can resulting in tactical advantage or disadvantage - the bringing in of IFV, is actually because the red team can't win it at the open ground infront of MwRYum.

Edit: The following do not have political intention:
The US SEAL lost sortie and failed several missions, at the early days of Afghanistan (2001, 2002), is exactly the reason. Taliban is a military ARMY, spc ops don't have THAT MUCH advantage against a well organized entire army. It is CONTINUOUS HAMMERING, like ALL THE OTHER conventional wars, defeated Taliban.

First of all, assuming you understand Mandarin or Cantonese (both used by the PA), the 2nd position was supposed to be a 2 story building with a window at the front of ground floor. And obviously this is just a demo aimed to impress the crowd so a lot of things were simplified. BTW, the 3rd position was a bunker, got blown up by Red force's bazzoka.

As for the "casualty" that got a head wound, he was actually judged as KIA and pull out of the game, but all in all this is to demonstrate it can simulate more than just "hit" and "kill".

And this ain't counter-terrorist demo, that was shown at another camp that day, and the reason why I picked to see this camp - despite its lack of static displays (all the non-lethal gear showcased at the naval base the day before weren't there) is for this, a good demo of the C-MILES system, something that most people don't know PLA has such things.

As for the thing you asked, it's a net gun, which fire a net to take down a target, part of the non-lethal gear showcased, and I gave it a brief description below the pic from the start...2 models were shown, a one-shot version and a 3-shot version, rotate the cylinder to fire each shot of a net.

A footnote for ya: it should be spell as "siege", what browser are you using? Or just that you didn't turn on the spellchecker?
