O.k. and since in the end we all will be disappointed, so let us now assume, when will that new EAW be unveiled ?

Any guess ... IMO it's difficult to say since XAC is heavily involved manufacturing H-6K and Y-20, it also has the H-20 in the pipeline ...

Anyway I have the feeling that the KJ-600 will be unveiled even before the H-20.

What do You think?

I'm guessing we will see a working prototype within the next couple years. I think it will be ready for service before CV-18 is commissioned in the next several years.

Well the thing is, KJ600 is not necessarily be produced by XAC, but very possible by S(hanxi)AC, who produced all the turboprop Gaoxin series.

Sorry to disagree and even if I agree the KJ-600 will most likely share the same overall configuration and size, this is plain and simple (at least IMO) a lazy 1 on 1 copy of a Hawkeye just with PLANAF-markings on.

I don't know in what certain details it will differ or if it will even look like this one...

I for myself hope that it will at least be a bit more different.

What I meant was that the CGI is not a CGI of a Hawkeye, but rather a CGI of what the artist expects the KJ-600 to look like.

I personally expect the KJ-600 to basically look very close to the E-2, considering we have some pictures of the KJ-600 mock up on the Wuhan carrier mock up already, whose configuration, proportions and overall dimensions are very close to the E-2.

Just a maybe stupid idea, but given the close relationship between Antonov and Xian and Shaanxi in terms of transports, ... could it be that the refurbished AN-132D - or a variant of it - could form the basis of the KJ-600??

It is a heavily modified airframe based on the original An-24/-26 aka Y-7 - powered by modern uprated engines, which surely Chinese ones could be a possibility ... or am I wrong??

I would expect that KJ-600 will not be derived from a land based transport. There is the matter of designing for a vertical speed at landing that is twice that of a land plane, then stressing the plane for launch using a cat and operating in a salt laden environment.
There are certain to be even more aspects to take into account so it is better to start with a specification and an near empty computer screen.

The real question behind this hypothesis would be what advantage does An-132D have over An-24/26/Y-7 to be the template of KJ-600? AN-132D is an upgrade with better Engine and Avionic of the same design. The adaptation work (carrier based) is equally big for either templates.

I agree, the challenge of KJ-600 is its adaptation work for carrier launch and recovery, which AN-132D does not provide better base than Y-7.

Both Y-7 and An-132 are significantly larger than either the E-2 or the Yak-44 and do not seem to be suitable starting points for a PLAN naval AEW/C platform. The mockup of the Chinese version also suggests against a Y-7 or An-132-based aircraft.
