Join PLA anyone?

Does the PLAAF only allow people with natural, uncorrected 20/20 (or better) vision to become pilots, like the RCAF? Are there any air forces that allow corrected 20/20 vision pilots to fly? At 55%, China ranks 2nd in the world in myopia rate in children

The only reason I would join the army is to get away from problems and because it is a purposefull job I would be good at. I mean whatg other job allows you to do something meaningful that is challenging to the mind while allowing you to escape all the problems of civilian life. As John Knowels put it,

That's from A Seperate Peace, a suck-tastic novel I had to read for school.

Basically it sums up why I would enlist, to get away from the complex problems of life and replace it with the clear, simple problem of a person trying to kill you. Plus, I am pretty fit and am an ok commander/ soldier, judging from Rome Total War and Paintballing. (I've only been paintballing once, but I was pretty good at it, even though my damn gun broke.)


Another thing...Say I'm a Chinese guy who tries to join the PLA but for whatever reason can't make it. If I still wanted to fight for China (any China) coul dI go join the ROC military, or would I be rejected as a spy? I just thought that would be sort of funny.

Wow..That's extremely insulting to those of us that have served in any military anywhere...Really...

So you think drill sargents are idiots? Why so?? You need men like that to whip yung people into shape who lack the discipline for a reallt tough job.

I was an NCO for the majority of my 20 years in the USN. Do you think I'm an idiot? Or Golly? Or Rommel?...or anyone else that served?? You need to choose your words more closely.

Nethappy..that's an old joke that is usally twisted to your favorite side. Still funny though!

Now u know what kinda hell they put u thought. Anyway, I guess i was just like half of these kids b4 I join up (joined the reserve at a really young age 16), but the army knocked some major sense into me. I am really proud that I did my service and it really trun me into a different person.

I can tell u if u think Rome Total War and paintballing is like the amry, then ya dreaming. Anyway, everyone think they a fit before they enter the service, it a normal thing, but u will soon learn otherwise.

Popeye, I know what you are trying to said, but he a kid, he state his point, he not up to the job. I personally find it ok, cos I know not everyone is up for the job. Being in any service is an enormous mentelly and physical challenge, I mean it was the frist time in my life I every felt like I rather die. But what you get out of it is very rewarding and it would stay with you for the rest of your life. Salute, too all of you would has serve his/her country.

drill insurgets are idiots...i know, talking from experiences....but they are supposed to be jerks, otherwise the system wouldn't work But I still find it intresting that people that post in military forum are so sure that they aren't going to entlist into any kind of military service....but guess its cultural thing, thougth I cannot find any excuse of not joining in, if finnish military would be on professional basis as in other countryes.... Maybe if the sole task would have beeing a mercanary corps for EU, 24hr readyness to go on to some forgotten african state to kill local child-soldiers and other insurgents...then i would have propaply thougth it twice wheter not to join in...but luckyly that wasent the case.

well SGT's in genaral don't normally shout and curse all day at u. when our CSM is teaching new drill movements and we get them wrong he normal corrects us or the CPL's do and just makes us do lots of drill as punishment or PT's. but when we get stuff wrong that we are supposed to know, we get lots of PT's and just a few minutes of lecturing saying we should know this. they really genarally are shown as shouters for they got to shout to give the orders so we all can hear him or her. being in the military isn't that bad or anything related to it

You gotta love some of those idiotic drill sargeants, some of them say really funny stuff

Here are some I heard back when I was in the cadets:

"Get off my parade square!"
"The parade square is my BABY!"

"Do not waste toilet paper! You are allowed FOUR SQUARES PER ROUND!!"
"Oh and, courtesy flushes!"

I agree 100% with my pal Golly. Jerk is a better word than idiot. If you never served..you have no clue what's it like to be in the military. None. And Boot camp(basic training)..is only about three months in most cases. That's where the "idiotic" sargents are. If you can't deal with that so be it.

I don't think i would join PLA because im not interested in tose physical works, i'd rather sit in front of a computer making animations (guess that's why china has to have the 1 week military experience thingy for highschool kids)

ok, here's my question, do they allow foreigners to join? (non-chinese, those who don't hold chinese citizenship) because technically im a canadian now (got the citizenship last november), although this would mean i need to apply for the visa when going back to china, not very convient.

I would love to join the PLA if I was still in China...
If I would join a foreign military it would be the USN (SEAL or Pilot)... the Naval Academy in Annapolis kicks butt (I was there two weeks ago during Spring break with a friend's family) or any other spec ops
