JH-7/JH-7A/JH-7B Thread

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

They are having no problem producing WS-9 domestically. It achieved production certification in 2007, which means they have resolved all the mass production issues and have no problem producing the parts needed. There is no need to get concerned about T/W ratio, since JH-7A's role is basically just acting as a bomb truck. With the current thrust level, PLAAF is more than satisfied with its performance. WS-15 is not an improved WS-9.

Does the PLAAF just intend to use the JH-7 as a “bomb truck”, or more as a strike aircraft to knock out carriers or other high-value assets? It would work well with some J-11 flying escort.

The PLAN's JH7s are optimized for anti-shipping while the air force uses theirs for ground attack. However, the air force planes will also have the AShMs integrated so could also perform anti-ship duties if needed.

by now, JH-7a may consider obselete, PLAN/PAAF may consider strike version of J-11,the J-11BH as a replacement.

Well JH7A is not much behind Su-30mkk if we are looking at key performance indicators such as payload, hard points, range & electronics, with huge advantage on cost too. I would say it's rather pointless to replace them with J11 variants. They would be better off investing on electronics & weaponry on mass produced cheaper platforms than replacing them with fancier ones.

Yup, JH-7A range is so good that they don't even bother to add refueling pod on it.

JH-7As on display from the 5th division of PLAAF and from 6th division of PLANAF. These are not the most recent divisions, so no revelations here.

Great pics. It would be nice to see JH-7 in Iran AF fleet, as a ground attack airplane , and anti ship missile carrior too, too bad they haven't taken any action to acguire JH-7 in large numbers and gradually put F-4 out of comission

I agree with You the JH-7A would (have been) be a nice replacement for the venerable Phantom, but - honestly - as long as Iran's president still behaves like a Troll (see his latest UN-speach) I hope China will sell it never.

However ... surely a nice what-if !

It's actually not about personal behaviors but official UN sanction that all member states must observe, which is also a bad news for JF-17 project.

Was it PAF being approached by XAC to promote JH-7 sales years back? Unfortunately nothing happened. I reckon a few squadrons of JH-7A with anti-ship configuration would be of great value to counter an opponent's superior navy, as proven by battle of Midway or Forkland.
