indianfighter, china does not appear to be actively developing a rd-93 replacement(expt ws-13), so the re-export issue clearly is not so severe. As china may eventually buy hundreds of rd-93s to supply pakistan, russia is in a position to make quite bit of money.

The range of PL-9C is 22 KM, so the range of python 4 is not 4 times. Python 4 is a good missile. Many people would make PL-9C equivalent of Python 3.75 if that makes any sense.

The Aim-9X and Python 4 both have achieved off-boresight targeting to kill shots of 90 degrees. If the PL-9C can do anything similar that would be truly impressive. I believe the range of 22Km to be highly respectable in that respect.

Well, sinodefence says the pl-9c has 1.3 the range of the python 3. i wont argue more than that, as im perfectly open to new stats.

the pl-9c has off-borsight targeting of 60 degrees. not quites as impressive, but its getting there. a new helmet shoudl do the trick.

now, this may be a bit off topic, but does anyone have any information on the pl-11? I know its an aspide copy, but has china done anything to improve it? whats the sercvice status?

A lot of stuff in there seem to be incorrect.

As for PL-11, it's definitely in service. It's probably the first BVRAAM that was equipped on J-10. PL-12 only recently got fitted on J-10.

That's a good way to go with this type of missile. Taking your air-to-air missile design and fitting them on launchers for short range SAM uses. I'm assuming that it would be dual-mode (Command guidance/Infra-red) in the SAM role.

i thin its a bad idea. their is already the fm-90, which has slightly increased range and superior detection and targeting. There is already the ty-90 for ultra-low defence

yitian=stinger
pl-9c=slamraam

dont see a real need for two of them, as the fm-90 is mobile enough

I'm not going to knock what you're saying here. But it is of one opinion. From a logistical stand-point, finding multiple uses for what would otherwise be single-purpose system helps tremendously in actually fielding certain weapons systems. From production, maintenance, spare-parts, etc....it makes sense.
