Re: JF-17: New Pics

(Just to cool things down here...please don't kill this thread guys)

I wonder if JF-17 will ever get WS-13A. Repeatedly it has been said that it's induction is not possible anytime before 2009. What are the other options for JF-17 to solve it's thrust problem in vertical plane??
IMO

1)Improved Kilmov RD engine, we have seen that Russia is not shy of improving upon it's engine quality if it is assured of sales (AL-31 FN-1??improve for J-10 )

2) Use of more composites to shed some weight but in this case another temptation would be to increase the fuel capacity for range increase or payload capacity increase.

What do you guys think, could be the next follow up to JF-17 mass production for upgrades?

EDIT: I Got this picture(top view of JF-17 ) from Key Aviation forum(credit goes to dondong2). Checked PLAAF picture thread and i don't think Swimmerx has posted it there. If it has already been posted please let me know so i can delete it.

Notice the horizontal stablizers on the tail. They are more slant at the back end than before IMO.Any comments?

Re: JF-17: New Pics

i wouldn't worry that much about WS-13, I think it could be ready before 2009, if things go smoothly. Remember, CMC has ordered it to be ready before 2010. You know what that means. Also, a little known news item is that WS-12 is also still ongoing in China. It's in the WS-13 range in terms of size and dimension. Looks like China has that PL-8 and PL-9 thing going. So, yeah. I would say that one of the two projects should be finished by then. the entire stuff with 500 RD-93 is just made up by the Russians. Don't believe it. As for the rest, I guess we will just have to wait for CAC

CMC stands for "Central Military Commission" the body that makes decisions for the military. It's head is usually the president of China I think.

Re: JF-17: New Pics

As per Pakistani media JF17 production will start shortly.

But dosent this AC need any kind of operational clearence or weapon testing/ integration before induction, because their prototype 4 is complete departure from its earlier versions.

First we are probably going to see a pre-production small batch of 4 or so planes. These planes will be flown extensively by PAF and tested for weapons testing. This will be followed by full scale production. So for full scale production we are probably looking at end of year 2007.

weapon testing/ integration and operation flight clearence are usually done by the manufacturer, because these test need proper infrastruture and management.

what i think is PAF might second its test pilots for the program.

I think they have been setting up the manufacturinf facilities at PAC for some time now.ALso, i read that weapons integration would be done in Pakistan. There has been quite some presence of PAF/PAC personnel at Chengdu and there is substantial Chinese presence at PAF Kamra so i don't think why they can't manage it inside Pakistan.

The Xiaolong 04 fighter had its maiden flight successfully on April 28, 2006.At noon on May 10, He Binbin, a test pilot of the PLA Air Force, piloted Xiaolong 04 to make another flight at the Chengdu Wenjiang Airport after the successful maiden flight on April 28.

Xiaolong fighter is a new generation of multi-purpose fighter jointly invested and developed by the No. 1 China Aviation Industry Group Corporation and the air force of Pakistan, and its intellectual property right would be owned by China exclusively and independently. The test pilots who flew Xiaolong 01 to 04 in the blue sky are all from a test flight group of the PLA Air Force.

Read the bold quote. This contradicts SOME people's claims that JF17 is Pakistan Intellectual property.
