The aerospace industry is in a peculiar place right now as there are no cheap "proper multirole" aircraft already in production or entering production apart from:

Western aircraft are too expensive. T-7 won't make it to the market. Turkey plans to replace F-16s with 5gen. Lack of outsourced F-16 production will maintain cost barrier.

All the Western countries upgrading to 5th gen / F-35 / etc will free up countless F-16's and other similar aircraft. Used should be fairly cheap. And there are thousands of F-16's alone operating globally outside the US. Ex: Norway sold it's F-16s to Romania, in 2022; and just a few days ago, Argentina decided to abandon the JF-17 and opted for used Danish F-16's.

As per Yankee he had reliable source stating that JF-17 for Iraq were already produced when the deal was called off due to interference with budgeting.

The US controls the Iraqi budget. Iraqi government funds are stored in US bank accounts. And the US has a say in how they spend their own budget. It's a US colony.

Interesting, I din't know the vast extent of of US government control of Iraqi money until now. From the press release from the US Dept of Treasury below, it is very obvious that Iraqi spending are closely monitored, and can be stopped by US.

Weaponisation of US Dollar can be very effective.

Well earlier there were rumors that Pakistan was eyeing on 12 Iraqi F16-BLK 52s as a trade-off with a sqdn of JF17s (subject to US approval) but didn't materialize.
