a really interesting note/video about JF-17 from shilao & group. Framed as 20 years after its first flight.

They talked about how DSI came about. Basically, someone in CAC saw F-16 DSI demonstrator report and then got it translated and studied through. Found it to basically have all upside & no downside. So they put it on JF-17 immediately for prototype 04

Hard to imagine something like that happen now. Although, I'm sure there are still plenty of people going through American research & papers for ideas on how they can help Chinese projects
