JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

Isn't it strange to see drop tanks mounted on an aircraft in the assembly line. Even static tests at this stage would be some time off.

The pitot at nose cone is not a regular feature. 02 must be a test bed for proving / testing new features on Blk III.

Anyone with insight?

The drop tanks are probably to add weight to the wing so that it presses more firmly on the wing root support structure. This will make it easier to fasten screws, and will prevent needless structural stresses from having to use the screws to pull the wing closer to the root.

Why do you think it is under assembly? IMO it's just under maintenance and so tanks are not unusual...

Pakistan has stopped providing Fighter Jet JF-17 thunder to Myanmar and revoked agreement with Myanmar government.

Sources said that the step had been taken in reaction to the continued genocide of Muslims in Myanmar.

Sources in defence ministry revealed to Daily Morning Mail that last year the ministry of defence of Myanmar had signed an agreement with Pakistan to purchase JF-17 fighter jets in three phases and also a high-level military delegation of Myanmar visited Pakistan. China had also played an important role in this regard.

According to agreement in the current year, Pakistan has to provide four fighter jets to Myanmar, has to train pilots, and do maintenance work of the jets for a specified period.

However, owing to the continue genocide and worst violence Rohingya Muslims, Pakistan has cancelled the deal and adopted a clear-cut stance that it wouldn’t provide jets for action against Muslim.

When contacted, a senior official of Pakistan Air force confirmed that Pakistan wouldn’t provide aircraft to Myanmar and added that signed agreement was not in effect anymore.

At the risk of sounding extremely insensitive here, I find it positively ridiculous that Pakistan suddenly has the Rohingya's best interest in their minds. They have let so many other similar crisis occurred against muslims without so much as batting an eyelid and now all of a sudden they have a chance of heart ?
And even if this article is true in the unlikely event, Pakistan has very little leverage on the JF-17 issue. Despite the article, Myanmmar's JF-17s are actually built in China. With production rights jointly owned by China and Pakistan how Islambad can convince Beijing to not pick up on the deal is a mystery.
It is one thing for Pakistan to acquire a fighter that comes with the least foreign strings attach. And another to decide to whom it's ally who jointly produce the fighter can sell it too.

This fighter keeps getting more and more expensive. I think at one point Pakistan would be better off just buying J-10s. It was supposed to be a cheap low end fighter and now they want AESA radar and helmet sights on them. Might as well get a heavier platform with more payload capacity if they want to integrate those systems to make it worthwhile. Also the J-10 has a large nose so it can have a better AESA radar.
They always wanted a cheap yet competitive fighter. The definition of competitiveness moves with time.
Second, they still will be much cheaper. Different class of engine, simpler maintenance. Fly away cost is but a top of an iceberg, and this is difference determing how frequently they will fly, both in training and in combat.
Third - while radar dish is smaller - so can be the rcs.
Mig-21 was known for its uncomfortably small radar return from the front, and JF-17 is not only just as small, its engine disk is hidden even better. I wouldn't be suprised if other main radar return producers got appropriate treatment.

In summ: this plane never will be a top performer, but it's a solid deal nontheless.

Agreed, but is this report true or once again an overhyped report spun by an ill-informed reported who only wants to promote a story?

I must admit I don't know since this is the only report I found, it is also a bit dated and I'm sure, it would have been discussed here?

Your argument is NOT ridiculous at all. Yes, all this time the Rohingya were being oppressed, and no Muslim country did anything to warn Myanmar about it, and this includes Pakistan.

In Pakistan's defense, we have had the most rotten to the core, governments in power for the past few decades. These politicians had no remorse gutting the country's economy, as it was already reeling from the "War on Terror." When governments have not a care in world about its own citizens who are imprisoned in abject poverty. What expectations could anyone have of these demonic politicians of offering any help to Muslims minority of another country?

Now however, the people of Pakistan and the military of Pakistan have backed and elected Imran Khan, into power. And Imran Khan takes Pakistan's well being VERY SERIOUSLY. Imran Khan is not someone whom you would want to mess with. He is has an overwhelming and powerful support of majority of Pakistanis. And the moment he was sworn in as Prime Minister. Khan''s government has gone to task on destroying corruption that has plagued Pakistan for so many decades.

It is only now, with Khan's government in power, had Pakistan's foreign policy taken a strong and independent direction. And even though China supports Myanmar, and the fact that JF-17 Thunder is a joint venture project of Pakistan and China. Khan's government has shown independence in foreign policy.

Allies and enemies alike, would only respect you, when you as a nation and leadership of a nation, stand firm on your principals of being just, honest and one who fights for the weak and oppressed. Both for your own people and for Muslims around the world.
