JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

Do we know whether block II supports targetting pods/Laser guided bombs?

They are always displayed with pods, but I cannot remember any photos of them in the air with it.

I think Blk II priority was on adding AShM capability.

LGB might have to wait until after Blk III, when they add that dedicated pod-carrying hard point.

Does anyone know if BieDou coverage extends over Pakistan yet? If so, they could potentially easily jump to satellite guided PGMs, although given the nature of counter-insurgency warfare, it may not always be feasible to expect to get GPS co-ordinates to targets, and given that they are conducting operations on their own soil, the PAF will probably want visual confirmation before releasing weapons.

About Bahrain Air show did PAF or PAC ever confirm they are going to attend?

And Bahiran ? Give me a break the biggest draw in that region is the massive Dubai air show Bahrain is not even a comparison why PAF would want to market two places and take the small pick

Also PAF does not need to prove itself to anyone, their record and history speaks for itself

I love it when people bash the project, first they said it will never fly then they said it will get inducted then they said it will never mature and then it will never export

Well PAC just overhauled the 1st ever JF-17, Block II is being delivered and export has been secured

What fine example of achievements and answer to all the critics, if it was a election I guess it's called a land slide victory !

And on targeting pods in a PAC video from last year pods are due on Block III it's not high priority as PAF use brilliant Sniper pods on F16 for counter terrorism

Long live the Thunder

Did PAF/PAC participate in the 2015 air show? Did a quick search but couldn't find anything on it.

They were listed as confirmed for 2016 by the hosts and even had parking bays allocated.

There was that parking layout that was released which showed JF17s and LCAs parked side-by-side.

Soon after its release, it was announced the PAF would not be participating.

I always thought the two were somewhat linked, although I couldn't figure out why Bahrain would appear to deliberately peeve off Pakistan like that.

Or was it all a giant PR stunt? Where the PAF was never going to participate, so the organisers released information in that order to generate controversy and free advertisement for their show?

1- There was never an official confirmation (or even denial) from PAF for BIAS.

2- This seems the case as PAF never participated in any of BIAS events

Beidou coverage does extend into Pakistan. We have seen varius Chinese targetting and other kinds of pods displayed next to the JF-17 Thunder in airshows, most recently in Paris. So unless the PAC and CAC are engaged in false advertisement then the JF-17 Thunder can be integrated with those pods. I don't know if the PAF has any of those pods in her inventory.

Yes Beidou coverage including the whole Pakistan in 2012 and in fact Pakistan is the only foreign country that have access to Beidou military restricted mode. Also PAkistan is the first country to deploy China's Beidou GPS network

Thanks, good to know.

In that case, it is certainly possible that Pakistan might have field tested Beidou guided PGMs in its counter-insergency operations.

However, without a dedicated targeting pod, they would not have been able to record the stock PGM strike videos the world now associate, and expect from such sorties.

Add to that possible desires to maintain operational security and not tell India the full extent of their capabilities, and it's quite understandable why they might not have added that information on the sales brochures of the JF17 yet. Especially given that Beidou is not yet globally operational, so most customers probably could not use this capability in the short term anyways, thus its inclusion would not be a great incentive.
