JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

Fighter aircraft sales are determined not only by Air Force requirements but also politics even more so when the bidders are western aerospace giants so the situation is no different in South East Asia

Country's lobby country's do back handing and kickbacks and all the rest

This is why JF-17 took a while to crack the market once it's done it will now go from strength to strength

I really think it was the Sino-Pak sales committee that was set up that did the deal as is the introduction of the twin seater

PAC alone couldn't sell if their life's depended on it, their marketing is terrible they should just stick to Air Force matters and the PAF pilots to flying leave the sales to Chinese who know how to sell

I remember over hearing one PAF pilots during a over sea excercise going "oh yes it's cheap it's really cheap" what I think he meant was it's affordable and for the price gives great capability's

Congratulations to team FC-1/ JF-17. Congratulations to CAC and PAC.

Thunder's value for PAF was independent of export interest. But export orders validate its value and mark it as an international success.

I am sure SLAF would love this jet for its versatility, value, and varied weapons suite. I would be very much interested in knowing which weapons would Sri Lanka buy with this order. I imagine that at least 2 aircraft should be twin-seater JF-17Bs.

I believe the deal here is for a sqaudron no one would buy 8 units that would be initial order only

It will be 12 x JF-17 and 4 x JF-17B

It's good because PAF will transfer the sqaudron package over

Congrats to Pakistan, China and Sri Lanka

I hope more deals come through soon

The article said Sri Lanka was the first customer, does it mean Myanmar decided not to buy the Thunder?

I am confused by the statement from the initial news coverage about Myanmar signing or not signing a deal. Here is the link to Jane's

We know that back in 2015, the rumor was always "unnamed customer", I don't remember reading "customers". Myanmar and Sri Lanka were two suspected buyers, but there was no rumors saying there were more than one buyer, neither deny either.

I think it is a plain mistake by the initial reporters including Jane's.

Myanmar is the first one o_O
I know Myanmar was the suspected buyer, but not aware of a deal was ever actually signed. Can you give more details?

I know very often such kind of deal may never be officially anounced, but I am willing to believe in creditable rumor such as this one

which shows a JF-17 in the backgroud, this was a strong suggestion.

Actually, New Zealand never purchase those F-16s. In fact, they basically scrapped their airforce 2 years after that talk about buying F-16s. All the fighter squadrons were disbanded with only airlift / transportation squadrons remained..

Ultra is correct, it was really sad day ... the decision by newly elected PM Helen Clark (the first elected female PM - note I say "elected"). NZ economy at that time was in big trouble, NZ$ is roughly = 0.45 US$ ... very low. I do believe NZ could afford having 1-2 squadron F-16, and with the current strong economy ... it shouldn't be a problem.

NZ has no enemy, peaceful prosperous small country ..... you wouldn't believe me, I met the current great PM John Key a few times in The Terrace (where my office is) and had chat with him while he was walking down to his office down the road. My office is about 700m from Govt. office. John Key always has 1 or 2 security officers with him... and they always let me talk to him without any checking/screening ..... and they looked very relax, I am sure they carry a gun but I didn't see it
