I don't see them even at all similar LOL. a 30' difference in length and over 1000 ibs in weight? No they are VERY different engines and simply quite impossible to fit one in the other.
Dear Ultra ... simply forget it ! ... and we already discussed that to death.
Yes it would, surely it would ... in the end it would be a type very similar if nor equal in performance to the J-10, it would de facto be an in-house competitor and as such simply not worth all efforts.
To admit You say it is only a 24cm increase in diameter ... but You omit the length and therefore center of gravity .. in the end it would require a new intake system, a new wing, new fuselage + gear ... nearly everything and for what.
So, please leave the JF-17 like it is ... and all others who want an AL-31FN powered fighter should simply buy the J-10.

Anyway, there are other western jet engines that offers more power in similar dimensions as I pointed out in my previous post - namely the EJ200 and F414. What's your opinion of those?
Forgive me, but I'm a bit old fashioned For me block upgrades mean you going to change hardware , not just software . Because to change software you don't need to reorganize production in factory, you just apply them on existing computers .
As for avionics, as far as I know radar remained the same , don't know much about EW suite (it's classified ) , IRST is still not integrated (internally) ... I don't know , somehow I expected more . Personal opinion, of course .
ISLAMABAD/BEIJING - Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman on Wednesday visited 24 Air Division at Tianjin, China.

Later, Sohail Aman also visited Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group (CAC) and Chengdu Aircraft design Institute (CADI). He was given a presentation by the management of CADI encompassing various projects of the industry.
He also visited the workshops and laboratories and appreciated the work standards being maintained at the industry. He also witnesses the ongoing modifications on JF-17 Prototype-5 aircraft and simulator at CADI.
The air chief also met the PAF personnel working at CADI and lauded their contributions and asked them to keep on working with same zeal and devotion. The air chief is on a five-day official visit to China.
Makes you wonder why China isn't proactive in showcasing export items. They could've at least sent a J-10B or J-31 to the Paris Airshow.
