WS-13 is say to be RE of RD-93 but with upthrust of 10%. I will not be surprised WS-13 looks like RD-93 too. Since CATIC already mention taxi run of WS-13 has conducted. We will not be surprised WS-13 has already install on prototype for testing. I think there is no way to verify which is which. RD-93 or WS-13??

I think the nozzle is identical. I don't think we will ever know the difference just from the photo

Yeah, the taxi test was more than a year ago. Hard to believe they're not already flying with it by now unless some serious problems occurred.
There were also I think some forum posts by someone with knowledge of PAF that PAF has been test flying JF-17 with Chinese engine.

I think AVIC shall be more transparent about the progress of FC-1 since this plane is designed to be export. I don't think they shall be so much secrecy of its progress. Let the public gather more info and stir up more interest. More or less the public opinion will help to generate more favour for FC-1 and make more sales rumour become materialised. I can understand the secrecy of J-10A/B or J-20 but I don't understand why much secrecy or less access info of progress for FC-1.....

For example we only have little info regarding the progress of indigenisation of WS-13.

FC-1 with WS-13 (Taishan) engine?
The nozzle looks rather blur and might be a pSed. So, the credibility of the pix is low.

Video of JF 17 flying at Turkish airshow. Impressive display.
Look at the comment section, always good for a laugh.
Very good aerodynamic display; however still very smoky, especially when afterburner is turn on. Any expert comment on this?

I disagree, I don't think the picture looks photoshopped. The nozzle is no more blurred than the rest of the picture is, unless you're talking about the area behind the nozzle, which is just the exhaust.

That being said we can't say the engine is WS-13, only that it looks kind of different to the RD-93, but that could be the angle and lighting.

A very interesting video. I saw a lot of smoke. That suggest a waste of fuel. I remember reading that over North Vietnam US aircraft could be found at the beginning of a smoke trail while the MiG-21 didn't leave such a trail.
More interesting to me was the excellent view on the centers of the vortices streaming from the LERXes.

Smoke out of engine has more to combustor design than anything.
Injector design pretty much determines wether it is a smoke or smokeless or not.

Some engines go smoky only during throttle transients. some don't smoke at all.

WS-13 supposily had a new smokeless combustor go along with all other tweeks.
