I found this pic of a CCTV capture. Familiar artwork being used in the background. So does the Chinese media just use any image out there or is there some sort level of validity to it?

I think that the picture in the background is just artwork. It looks too much like the supposed "stealth FC-1" that we've been hearing about on the internet. Maybe the editor just got lazy and snatched pictures from internet forums (or worse, by baiduing them) ;D.

Just because CCTV is state run doesn't necessarily mean they have inside info. Mostly, the journalists and editors are just as clueless as we are. That's why whenever you see a story from Xinhua about the military, you can't necessarily accept it as fact. It really has to come from a military official or the arms company itself.

If that plane is really in plan, a upgrade of JF-17 with CFT. It will probably need a 11tons thrust engine... I guess we just need to be happy with WS-13 at the moment. :D

few days ago, there are report from wmf about new "stealth" version or LOA,the picture showing FC-1 with conformal fuel tank,likely the aircract.

Do not rely on pictures and photos from CCTV, I live in PRC for 9 years, I know. Normally the photos and the news being report are not the same, more for comparison or for illustration of similarity only.

There are times when CCTV7, the CCTV military channel, report on PLA news but showing pictures of American hardware instead. Listen to the news carefully but not the photo, or the video.

JF17 was made with massive input by PAF pilots who have wealth of knowledge and experience on the worlds best fighter, the F16. They also operate now the C/D Block 52+ which is in service with the worlds best airforces.

So if the PAF pilots are saying the JF17 is a fine fighter it must be, considering PAF trains for dogfights like no other airforce JF17 can pull some serious moves and PAF is VERY happy with the performance and capabilitys of this fighter.

It inco-operates the very best of Chinese 21st century equipment which is better than alot of Western systems, thats why PAF ordered Chinese systems. PAF has access to French, Italian and American systems.

JF17 is turned out to be a superb fighter and its a building block for future fighters like FC-20 and JXX
