Are we sure this is cope cage and not camo webbing? There is no coverage from the sides at all.
Hard to say, maybe dual purpose. Never have seen these on JGSDF tanks before, despite their frequent use of camouflage nets on there tanks.

I think that these cages are intended to protect the tanks from grenades dropped from drones from above not from suicide drones. Japan seems aware of the threat modern FPV-drones prove to tanks.
