Just saw this - Japan is in the midst of upgrading JS Kaga, the second vessel of the Izumo class helicopter carrier. Upon completion of this upgrade, F35Bs will be able to take off and land on it.

Although the Izumo class are the largest vessels of JMSDF with a full load displacement of 27000 tons, it is only slightly larger than PLAN’s Type 71 and much smaller than Type 75s.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but I couldn't find anywhere more suitable.

Looks like Japan is looking to reclaim the crown for operating the world's largest Coast Guard ship from China:

NHK has learned that Japan Coast Guard officials are considering constructing a new patrol vessel that is much larger than any they have ever had.

Sources close to the matter say the vessel would be capable of carrying dozens of high-speed rubber boats, as well as three helicopters. They say the vessel is planned to include capabilities for commanding other patrol ships, serving as a maritime base during missions.

The sources say Coast Guard officials are considering using the vessel for operations around the Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, for transporting residents in the event of an emergency, and for disaster-response operations, among other missions.

Under the current plan, the new vessel would be 200 meters long and about 30,000 tons. This would be three to four times larger than the biggest patrol ship the Coast Guard currently has. The sources say Coast Guard officials are also considering designing the vessel to accommodate up to 1,500 passengers, as well as containers.

They say the Coast Guard aims to put the vessel into use sometime in fiscal 2029, and there is a plan to add a vessel of the same type in the future.

The next step is obvious: China needs a CCG-mod Type 076 equipped with dozens of landing rescue craft.

Holy cr4p, did the Japanese took the "CCG is impatiently waiting for the hand-down 055s and 075s from the PLAN" joke that seriously?!

The CCG also needs at least one 80000-ton flatdeck that can house 100+ of CCG's MALE/HALE-type UAVs for maritime law enforcement duties across the entire WestPac!

Huh, I wonder if there's a ship model that the CCG could adapt from...
