When the infrastructure is destroyed it will be difficult to get needed aid through to the victims of this disaster in an expeditious manner. But still the aid is arriving in Japan. If you do search of disasters you will find same complaint.."Aid is slow to arrive"

The people of Japan have more experience with natural disasters also than people living on other islands. They generally are well prepared, except for Tepco.
But the expectation was a tsunami with a height of 5 meters, not 10. However, not so very long ago, if I remember rightly some 25 000 year, part of a volcano in Hawai fell into the ocean and, I read, the damage done by the tsunami to the coastal mountains in Australia has been recognized. When part of a volcano in the Canary Isles will fall into the Atlantic, expected within the next 5000 years, all ports around that ocean, except perhaps those that lie behind shallow seas, like Rotterdam, are likely to be destroyed. Something to think about.

SANY Heavy & Nuclear leak in Japan
62m Sany Truck Mounted Concrete Pump Sent to Support Fukushima Nuclear Power Station

Since the outbreak of Japan’s nuclear crises in Fukushima nuclear power station, the determination and the strong will of Japanese people have touched the whole world. In March 19th, Tokyo Electic Power Company (TEP), which runs the plant, sent mail to China’s Embassy in Japan and Sany Heavy Industry, hoping to buy Sany 62m concrete pump to support the water spraying operation in the nuclear plant. Sany has showed great concern at the event and responded positively that Sany would offer its 62m concrete pump to TEP free of charge to help fight against the current crises. The equipment has left Sany head quarter in Changsha and is now heading towards Shanghai. It is estimated that the concrete pump will arrive in Japan on Wednesday.

Sany 62m truck mounted concrete pump ready to support Japan

March 19th, a emergency mail from TEP president Masataka Shimizu has been sent to Sany Heavy Industry. In the letter, he wrote, “As we experienced a very severe earth quake and a huge tsunami on March 11th, 2011, we now has serious situation to cope with in our nuclear power plant. We certainly appreciate your kindest offer to send your product, Truck mounted concrete pump SY5502THB 62B to Japan free of charge. We would like to accept this offer and would like to use the truck mounted concrete pump SY5502THB in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. Thank you again and we anxiously wait for the pump to arrive.”

According to reports that TEP has been using equipments like fire truck, military helicopter, truck mounted concrete pump to spray water into the reactors, trying to cool them down and restart the reactors’ cooling system. TEP knew that Sany was the record holder for the concrete pump with the longest boom reach. Then it sent purchase inquiry of Sany SY5502THB truck mounted concrete pump to Sany Heavy Industry. After hearing the situation in Japan, Mr. LIANG Wengen, chairman of Sany Heavy Industry promised that Sany would give its 62m concrete pump to TPE free of charge and was willing to help Japanese people fight against this crises.

YANG Zhihua, the vice general manager of Sany Overseas, commented “the 62m concrete pump will mainly be used in the water spraying operation for the No.4 reactor. The reactor is 46 meters high and the concrete pump has to keep a 14 meters distance from it. Sany’s 62m truck mounted concrete pump is just the one that meet such requirement.”

In 2007, Sany 66m truck mounted concrete pump made the Guinness Record as the concrete pump with the longest boom range. Merely two years later, Sany refreshed its own record with a 72m truck mounted concrete pump. Now Sany Heavy Industry is still the holder of this honor.

The booming technology is the key technology for the manufacturing of truck mounted concrete pump. Before, the technology was controlled by American and German Companies. After years of research and development, Sany Heavy Industry managed to develop China’s frist truck mounted concrete pump. After ten years’ of development, Sany’s boom length for concrete pump has incresed from 37m to 72m. Sany now has the largest manufacturing plants for truck mounted concrete pump and is recognized and trusted by the customers as the leading brand in the concrete machinery industry.

A brand with a history in international operation

Sany sending concrete pump to Japan was not the first time that we saw Sany’s appearance in international operation. In October 2010, Sany SCC4000 crawler crane joined the rescue of trapped Chilean miners and was called “the king of cranes in China”. Sany crawler crane was one of the two rescuing equipment on site and was the only equipment from Asia. HAO Heng, Sany’s service engineer was the only rescuer from Asia. The rescue operation was succsessful and all trapped miners were saved and unharmed. In the operation, Sany’s products and service left very good impression to the local people made the world know the quality of “made in China”.

“The reason why Chile chose Sany in their rescue plan is that Sany has a fame for its high qulity products and first class service as well. Japan is a country famous for its construction machinery products. This time, TPE choosing Sany showed their trust for Sany’s concrete pumping products” said by a machinery expert.

As an international company, Sany never forgets it responsibility for the society and global community.

In Feburary, 2008, Sany donated 3million RMB to help fight against the ice disaster in Hunan and sent 21 Sany graders in the ice removing operation on Hunan high way. In May, 2008, Sany donated 3 million RMB, and constuction equipments valuing 15 million RMB to help people in Wenchuan earthquake. A Sany rescue and service team made by 80 people was sent to the stricken area in Sichuan. In June, 2009, a serious land sliding disaster attacked Chongqing Wulong. Sany’s four excavators were the first group of rescuing equipments arrived in the striken area. Auguest, 2009, the southern part of Taiwan was hit by Typhoon Morakot and suffered the most serious flood since 1961. Sany donated 3.5 million equipments to Taiwan to help people in the disaster. April, 2010, a 7.1 magnitude earthquake striked Yushu, Qinghai. Sany offered 15 million RMB and sent excavators to the disastrous area. China’s first foudation aimed for helping orphans in the disaster area was founded by Sany after the earthquake. May, 2010, a derailment happened in Shanghai-Kunming railway. Sany sent support team and was among the first group arriving at the site. Auguest, 2010, 5 excavators and 2 pile drilling rigs from Sany joined the rescue operation in Zhouqu earthquake.

Given the scale of the destruction to the infrastructure, I think it is amazing how many people are now getting help...and the Japanes wrning and preparedness is going to keep the death toll down below 30,000 I believe...when it easily could have been in the hundreds of thousands.

Here is a site I created. Many, many photos, and links to some unbelievable video footgae:

This picture is an actual photo of the Tsunami coming on shore in one location, and is taken from 4:00 to 4:30 in the following video of the same. I wonder of the person taking this video survived?
