Just to confirm once again - What are the 4 variants?

CATOBAR variant, STOBAR variant, CTOL variant, & export variant - Is this correct?

Maybe CATOBAR 1 & 2 seat, CTOL 1 & 2 seat.

Of course there's also the much-rumoured STOVL variant....

No one but SAC knows and all is only speculation

Here the full image ... however between will have (in a few years) and will have (now already one year after its maiden flight) is a difference and as far as I understand the situation, all rumours concerning an already signed export contract are a rumour or simply fake.

As such IMO, it is just one prototype - maybe the first one since it still has that huge pitot - and it remains to be seen, where and when this image was taken. Do we know this?

At this point I don’t think we can rule out the possibility that this is a fc-31 2.0, after all we’ve seen a prototype with grey livery flying around for years. It’s a bit too blurry to say for sure

'Variant' may refer to mission. Maybe an 'S', a 'D', and a Trainer version?

This drawing allegedly shows J-35's integrated boarding ladder (for pilots to climb into cockpits). When not in use, it is telescoped and then tucked away behind a body panel:

Apparently, the steps on the boarding ladder are 3D printed to save weight.
