Re: New Generation Fighter

back in 2001 zhuhai airshow, kanwa published exclusive picture of small gen.4th aircraft undergoing test in wind tunnel.the picture more likely occured around mid-or late 90's.

test flight could not have possibly started yet. it took J-10 about 15 years from beginning of wind tunnel to the beginning of test flights. so an appropriate time to begin should be around 2010-2012

We are almost 2010 ;) And with the experience of J-10, they might be able to do things a little faster.

lol the way i see it anything under the 8-10 years mark the air force general gave us is a bit of a stretch. my hope is that there will be enough of them ready for the 2019 parade:roll:

Re: New Generation Fighter

Didn't the general also said the new fighter would still take about 10 years for its first flight? If that's true then their new fighter won't able to enter service until c.2030. That sounds reasonable since PLAF's main fighters are still J-7 and J-8, that's on average 30 years behind western countries.

I believe the general said it would achieve IOC in 8-10 years, so it might enter regimental service about two years before that (if we use the J-10 timeline, they had a J-10 regiment formed about two years after it achieved IOC and was declassified

) But the whole process may take a bit shorter because they had the experience of developing the J-10 by themselves.
The general said it would have it's first flight "soon", not about 10 years time, I think you got the two mixed up..

Even if it did enter service about 2030, IMHO that would be a bit unreasonable, even perhaps a bit unacceptable. The J-7's and J-8's are still kept in service for pilot flying and also because it would be stuipd to replace them one for one with J-10's when they're good enough to be used against China's third world adversaries like Vietnam.
Besides you don't expect the 30 year gap thing to continue for too much longer do you?

Re: New Generation Fighter

Above is the word by word interview contents, translated:

Q: When will China be able to complete the development of our own 4th generation fighter?

A: The development of China's 4th generation fighter is in a very intense pace; according to the related documents, the maiden flight should be very soon, and test flights will follow quickly, then to deploy the air force immediately after. Based on the current situation, it could take another 8 to 10 years.

So, he didn't say 10 years for the "first flight", rather, it'll be "very soon".

sorry,not this one ,anyway thank's.
according to a report posted in top81,wmf and kanwa, the new aircraft weight and lenght more or less compatible to F-18 ,MIG-29/35 ,rather than F-22.

I personally hope they're wrong in this case then :) (unless there is the F-22 class J-XX still in development) This is certainly the first I've heard of the J-xX being in the Mig-29's weight class... You would think the development of the WS-15 engine would mean they would be for an F-22 class fighter.

Got links? (Also how reliable are they?)

it starts talking about 4th generation fighter at around 8:50 and J-10 even earlier. It talks about J-10 transforming China from cloning aircraft to developing its own aircraft and also finally producing a home grown 3rd generation fighter to PLAAF. And for the time being, J-10, J-11 and J-8 are the main force of PLAAF. 3rd generation fighter is already the main force of PLAAF. About 4th gen fighter, it says that it will make the first flight soon. After the first flight, it will begin test flight program. It can equip the force after 8 to 10 years. 4th generation fighter jet program have already been in development for a while, many parts have already achieved breakthrough like large turbofan engine, stealth technology and electronics. The goal of this plane is to reach the level of F-22. It says that 4th generation plane has to surpass 3rd generation and 3.5 gen planes in all technical areas. It says that J-10 is on par with the best of 3rd generation fighter jets, so it should be expected that China's 4th gen plane is also on par with the best of 4th generation fighter jets world wide. It says that J-10 matches Typhoon and Rafale in many areas.

In this video, it also mentions KJ-2000 and KJ-200 as part of forming new airborne early warning regiments. It also talked about H-6H and H-6U joining service as new variants of H-6.
