if the J-20 can do the moonwalk in midair or transforms, that'd be awesome. but also only then will even the west have to recognize it's the new king

and all that jazz.

Lol..do something with the J-20 PLAAF to get the masses excited..show your stuff..within reason.

And yes I realize that the PLA is slow and methodical in the testing of new equipment.

Was that a Star Fox reference? I was awful at that game.

I think people are not giving the PLAAF enough credits here. The fact that we are seeing the plane at all indicates a big step forward for the Chinese military (as opposed to the dark ages when people get calls when they post J-10 photos on the internet). During the second flight, I believe, the pilot tried to "say hello" to the watchers on the ground by flapping the air foils. Perhaps in a future flight he might pull off something more radical to satisfy his ego.

Looks like I was wrong about the fact that there was only one picture taken on the 24th. Here are two more pictures of the J-20 dumping fuel over Chengdu:

I guess they are testing to see how fuel level changes affect the flight characteristics and centre of gravity etc. Instead of flying around for hours just to burn fuel, it would be more efficient to just rapidly dump it and get straight to business.

I would imagine that this would be a necessary step before they clear her for any long distance flights, so if the plane suddenly behaves unexpectedly as fuel levels drop, they have a runway right under them. That is a lot safer than if they experienced problems during a long range test/ferry flight hundreds of miles from a suitable airport.

This could mean they are laying the foundations for moving her to more remote test centers if this is the case.
