Rumors say PLAAF already plans to receive the first J-20 by 2016, the total number would be between 400 and 500.

Without the ability to super-cruise the J-20 would be handicapped. The Chinese should wait until they get adequate engines

Who's saying J-20 can't supercruise? Its aerodynamic design is built for speed, it should be able to supercruise with less engine power than the more usual design would.

That may be true, but it's also a heavy plane, likely heavier than the F-22 for example, and it's got a LOT less thrust to work with, so I think supercruising with a WS-10 as it is right now is unlikely.

Without oxygen for the pilots, the F22 would be handicapped. USAF should wait until they get an adequate oxygen system. Or maybe get pilots who can hold their breath for a long ....... long time. :)

Wasn't that problem finally fixed already? I remember there was one attempt to fix it that failed, then there was a stop gap, a grounding of the fleet, then some other stop gap, but now, finally, the oxygen issue is fixed. So I read anyway.

Who knows ? They said it was 'fixed' or never had a problem many times over the years didn't they ?
The last time it was 'fixed' was few weeks ago just when the F22s were needed urgently in Japan to provide moral support, how convenient. And guess what, they flew there still with the altitude restriction and flying close to airports.

Er... I thought the Chinese is researching the WS-15 or something like that. Most likely by 2016 or 2017, the engine will be matured enough to be put in their best fighter. In any case, I do not believe the Chinese will still be using the WS-10A to power their J-20.
