Video taken on May 29th. No take-off but the J-20 rolls to the other end of the runway and throttles up from that end so we get an angle we haven't seen before.

I guess it flew. Too bad you can't see the panel through the reflection on the inside. So what's the purpose of dumping fuel all the time?

It is a testing plane. You go up with enough to cope diversion, longer testing due to problems but when you come back you better reduce risk with weight so dump it... Same happens with commercial planes during testing. Hope that explains.

I'm still more fond of the YF-23 over the F-22; the YF-23 was stealthier, had greater range, and if I heard correctly, better sustained turning rates. The unfortunate thing was that it wasn't capable as a knife fighter due to lower instantaneous turning rates.

fuel dumping could be more important to j20 than to older planes because j20 may have larger percentages of fuel without the benefit of jettisonable external tanks. maybe it needs a system where it can dumb A LOT of fuel and make itself lighter for a ton or two within a very short period of time. I do hope that plume of fuel isnt visible to radar though...

F-22 combat radius is between 640 km and 960 km. The Su-35 has a combat radius of approximately 1370 km. So, a thrust-oriented approach sacrificing drag performance would still result in poor combat radius and poor fuel efficiency, but the F-22 has the tanker support to get away with it. However, if anti-AWACs missiles start hitting the scene, you can say goodbye to your tankers.

Advertisement for a very special product:

"F-22 Raptor, America's Fifth Gen fighter". Author, Yang Wei.

Yup. This book is by the very same Yang Wei responsible for the Chengdu J-20. He also wrote a book on the JSF which is also available online. Guess he is a big fan of Lockmart.

Please buy the book and support the development of the Chengdu J-20 :D :D :D.
