J-20... The New Generation Fighter III

Goodness, J-20 looks so much better with the redesigned landing gear door mechanism ;__;
Even if 2002 doesn't feature any mission avionics, the sheer fact the landing gear has changed would be enough. The profile of the plane is just so much smoother this way, and aesthetically more like what you would expect from a top end 5th generation fighter.

It's the same mechanism. The front-doors in the two-door rear landing gear covers are simply closed as opposed to hanging open. I agree it does look a lot better.

yes externally there doesn't seem to be any change but the different opening/closing sequence of the doors (in my mind) means it's a different "mechanism". Whether it be a different bit of code or a slight reworking of internals to facilitate this change, the change is still there. But that's semantics

Here's my thought: I don't think the doors' mechanism was changed. By design, and mechanically, the doors could operate this way from the beginning. What they did probably is just to add or delete a few lines here and there in the control software, so that the doors now can be closed even when the aircraft is not in the air.

Still can’t believe that CPC allows one of its most secret weapon systems freely photographed as such… There’re definitely 2 testing sites, one in the Goby pulling high Gs trying out aerodynamics and materials strength to the limit while the other in Chengdu fixing some minor glitches for fans, youtube and Langley...

On aesthetics, unlike Rafale whose philosophy resembles that of a tiny bottle of massively over-priced Chanel No 5, F/22 and J-20 seem subscribing to the same general id – a thick (red or green) neck macho with iron balls and a big gun, while PAK FA appears thouroughly femenin – a Russian chick wearing a tight jeans and a tight top waiting in a line at a nightclub door in cold wind of a -10 degree snowing night, shaking… all 3 got looks in each own right... Call me stubbonly traditional, for a military conflict not a dance floor I still prefer macho types though any day of a week.

2001 officially moved to Yanliang according to wall climbers on CJDBY. The plane didn't land after it took off yesterday.

Brilliant ... so we can assume, the next phase of flight testing to begin ! ... which however will mean we won't see them as often as during the last months.

I'm thinking the opposite: We now have two publicly known J-20's to watch: 2002 in Chengdu and 2001 in Yanliang!

Imho, believe it. There's one thing what the americans say and think about China, and another thing what the real China is like. Me , although i haven't seen it in person , only from hear-say, i say i like this real China. My 2 cents.
